Pokemon joins Call of Duty and Madden as annual franchises, why that isn't a bad thing

The news of Pokemon X/Y marks the fifth year in a row that Nintendo is releasing a Pokemon RPG. The series now joins Call of Duty and Madden NFL as franchises that receive annual releases. The Pokemon DS game Platinum started this trend back in 2009.

Gimme Gimme Games describes why they are okay with this for now, so long as Nintendo drops the habit after the release of X/Y.

I don't think Pokemon is a yearly franchise. I doubt we would get one in 2014. Pokemon X/Y was probably rushed because of how 3DS is struggling in the US and EU markets. Nintendo probably realized that releasing Black/White 2 for DS was a mistake and that mistake made many people buy a DS this holiday instead of a 3DS.

I can see one being released next year but like a retro one (upgrading an old classic).

Did you know that Nintendo isn't as affected as YOU sound. . . even the Virtual Boy inspired whats coming (: . . . . lets be good boys as to not have for nintendo to need to take out the g-Love :)

Struggling in the US and EU markets???? LOL

Also, these games aren't rushed. Pokemon X and Y were most likely started right after B&W. B&W 2 could have easily been worked on at the same time since they used all of the same assets from the first set. If anything, B&W 2 were released only to capture cash and give DS owners one final AAA game from Nintendo as to throw a bone to say "we didn't forget about you."

Yes pokemon games come out every year but it's a main installment like CoD or Madden.

There are those countless horrible spin-offs and filler titles that take up the space between each main entry
