Pokemon joins Call of Duty and Madden as annual franchises, why that isn't a bad thing

The news of Pokemon X/Y marks the fifth year in a row that Nintendo is releasing a Pokemon RPG. The series now joins Call of Duty and Madden NFL as franchises that receive annual releases. The Pokemon DS game Platinum started this trend back in 2009.

Gimme Gimme Games describes why they are okay with this for now, so long as Nintendo drops the habit after the release of X/Y. (3DS, Nintendo, Nintendo DS, Pokemon Platinum, Pokemon X and Y)

I don't think Pokemon is a yearly franchise. I doubt we would get one in 2014. Pokemon X/Y was probably rushed because of how 3DS is struggling in the US and EU markets. Nintendo probably realized that releasing Black/White 2 for DS was a mistake and that mistake made many people buy a DS this holiday instead of a 3DS.

I can see one being released next year but like a retro one (upgrading an old classic).

Did you know that Nintendo isn't as affected as YOU sound. . . even the Virtual Boy inspired whats coming (: . . . . lets be good boys as to not have for nintendo to need to take out the g-Love :)

Struggling in the US and EU markets???? LOL

Also, these games aren't rushed. Pokemon X and Y were most likely started right after B&W. B&W 2 could have easily been worked on at the same time since they used all of the same assets from the first set. If anything, B&W 2 were released only to capture cash and give DS owners one final AAA game from Nintendo as to throw a bone to say "we didn't forget about you."

Yes pokemon games come out every year but it's a main installment like CoD or Madden.

There are those countless horrible spin-offs and filler titles that take up the space between each main entry

That is not bad, that is horrible.

It is different to play a main title and a spin-off, I dont care nintendo release 10 different pokedex every year, but a main pokemon title is expected to bring new stuff, a lot of. If you release a main installment every year, it will lose its originality in some moment, period. Modern Warfare was a masterpiece but after 3,4 years in a row it just seemed like an expensive 50 USD map expansion.

It is not new nintendo was in the red last year, and different from sony and MS that can make money from other departments, it depends exclusively on its games sales (and the investors that believe in it). So I can understand they need to assure the income, but their are risking bust one of their best IP only to keep the sales momentum.

This new pokemon X and Y looks amazing, but with this pokemon rush someday the fans will just give up buying it.

Nintendo has some strong IP still waiting for their debut on 3ds, f-zero, a new star fox, a new zelda, a donkey kong, etc etc etc. I could wait until 2014,15 for this pokemon title (that for sure I am looking for).

I think Kirby should have been one of the first to mention. There hasn't been a Kirby title announce yet. Kirby is other than Pokemon my favorite handheld game series.
