PSUni: How Sony Can Improve the PSN Store

PSUni: "PlayStation Network is a great place to get a lot of games, videos, and other content that can enhance the gaming experience. Purchases and downloads are quick and the store is organized neatly into games, videos, and other sections, but there’s one thing that would make the store much better: a more simplified search feature." (PS Vita, PS3)

I want the old store back. I feel it's easier to navigate and loads faster.

I do like the presentation of the new store, it does look modern.
iamnsuperman  +   470d ago
It seams the new store was never tested on consoles but was on the web browser. The web browser version works so well and I can only assume they ported it over to give the same look and feel but it is horrible. It doesn't work very well. The old store was pretty simple (except the search function) which I never understood the complaints. The new store would be great if they improve the stability of it because parts of it keep crashing

I like the new store, they finally got all the psp junk out my way when all I want is stuff for my ps3.
MmaFan-Qc  +   470d ago
i like the look of the the new psn and its quick search fonction, ...but god damn its SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Canary  +   470d ago
There's no "feeling" to it.

I've timed the new store. The fastest task it's managed to complete is adding an item to the cart in ~75 seconds.

Removing items from the cart tend to crash the store.

Sony has built up a lot of goodwill over the years, but IMHO most of it has vanished over the past few thanks to their abominable decisions re: the PS3 and Vita.
Janitor  +   470d ago
Change it back maybe? Seriously what was wrong with the old one?

Also, I just got NBA Jam because of plus, and I'm pretty sure I clicked like 12 times to download it. Click click add to cart click click confirm accept click click download.

That happens to me too. But it happened when I entered a super voucher code for Uncharted 1 and 2 and I ended up having to go trough and push download for every individual item. Such a pain in the ass.

The new store is an epic fail.
Looks nice but barely works, is full of bugs and the search engine sucks.
Also the Vita store should be brought up to the top and not stuck at the bottom of the selection screen where no one can see it.
f789790  +   470d ago
The search engine sucks? No that's too nice.

A full keyboard layout versus the new vertical alphabet. I rage every time I have to use the thing.
DA_SHREDDER  +   470d ago
what pisses me off is that you can't find anything, and its a long process. The only reason why I think they changed it is cause the ps4 will have an updated psn and the ps3 psn store will need to be the same as the ps4 store.
GreenRanger  +   470d ago
It's like looking into a bucket full of bats, i'm almost afraid to move around the store.
They should go back to the old design.
WilliamH  +   470d ago
Maybe organise the download list into different categories such as full games, demos, add ons, themes instead of having to scroll through an enormous list of everything I downloaded over the years. Also a little icon beside all items in your download list letting you know what's downloaded and installed on your system, this would be especially handy for add ons.

Yeah, when it comes to digital marketplaces, speed is priority #1. The new store is clunky, loads like Windows 98, and is all jazz with lacking functionality.
Belking  +   470d ago
PSN does still needs some work. It will take a while for them to actually get it right.
f789790  +   470d ago
It was fine before! Now it's just stupid. No amount of time will help if they think updating it like this is a good thing.
Belking  +   470d ago
But you have to take into account that this is not a area where sony is at there best. PSN itself is still relatively new and this is mostly about software. They have to keep updating and improving. They really can't afford not to with things like smart T.V. and it's rival xbox live out there. It will get better with time. Xbox live has gone through it's changes and it's not perfect but I think it's much better than before. This is an area where I think sony need to put more resources towards though. Whether we like it or not consoles aren't just for games any more.

i want the old store back it worked fine and the new one is a mess and takes forever to load.
cervantes99  +   470d ago
The new store looks nice but is slow and clunky. It feels like running Windows Vista on 2GB of RAM - Ouch.
strigoi814  +   470d ago
Bring back the old one..just change the color and background

The menu layout is awful. It is a huge pain in the ass to find stuff. It's as if someone threw a dart and that's where it lands is where it goes.

Search ps vita/ps + section. It lists everything on ps3 also and scrambles it like a jigsaw puzzle to make you work to decipher what is ps3/psp/vita. Whoever programmed that store front needs a good kick to the nuts. It's issues like this that drag down your image. Give me the option I will go back to the functional store we had before.
iamnsuperman  +   470d ago
I prefer the layout to the old one but it just doesn't work very well. If it stopped crashing, having problems I think it would be better than the last one. The web version is so much better
jukins  +   470d ago
Besides that horrendous initial loading screen I find it much easier to find stuff on the new pstore.

Furesis  +   470d ago
so it looks like nobody likes the new store correct? well why haven't they changed it back i mean cant they see the problems that everybody is experiencing, like do they really think it's better than the previous one?
arbitor365  +   470d ago
change it back to the old design. this new design is an utter catastrophe.

- it loads up slower and is incredibly clunky and laggy at every step
- it is full of glitches (at one point it glitched and made me buy two years of PS plus. i had to call sony to get it fixed
- they took out the PSN exclusives section, which was one of my favorite things
- there is a ton of wasted space (about 80% of the screen) filled with unneccesary bloated icons and ads
- everything is bigger, so i have to do alot more scrolling. i hate being so zoomed into everything. basically I have a tenth of the overall vision I had originally. and there is really no reason for it.

its just plain horrible. its abysmal. its borderline un-usable.
sdozzo  +   470d ago
I'm with you on the slow navigation and loading.
sdozzo  +   470d ago
It's a lot of information and products but it feels like a mess. Looks good. But, there is DLC, games, clips... All sorts of crap liter each page.
NoSuchUserName  +   470d ago
Agree with above, it's in Alpha state and should never have been allowed to go live. There are literally millions of people who use the store, a little quality control...?
Dark_Overlord  +   470d ago
I say give people the option to use either version, most people I know would use the old layout, but there are a few I know who prefer the new store. With the option to choose either, it would satisfy both :)
LOOK_AT_THIS_I  +   470d ago
Agreed to have a an option....
Pretty / Functional
MegaLagann  +   470d ago
I really want the old store back. The new one screams "unnecessary". The old design was fine, a perfect case of if it isn't broken don't fix it. I find the design of the new store unattractive as well. It just looks like Sony tried to be like Apple or Microsoft with Metro. Also, it's a slow cluster fuck of a mess. Now at the end of the day it's only a store I go on from time to time to download some demos so it's not a deal, but whenever i'm on I just keep thinking about how unnecessary this is.
bigbearsack  +   470d ago
Remote play for all my PSN games .. come on Sony! you can do it.
LOOK_AT_THIS_I  +   470d ago
They could have made it like the vita store. I go through it fine, no lag, no system lock. I don't understand how it made it to the public in its current state.

It reminds me of trying to run a program like photoshop on a 333mhz compaq with a 8mb ram it's Awful
nevin1  +   470d ago
Just go back to the old design.

End of story
Krew_92  +   470d ago
Oh God how I want the old store back. I loathe going through the store each time I want to check for something. I like the Vita store a million times better, since it's functional and is basically the old store with touch interaction. I really hope they never touch the Vita store, I don't mind a design change but LEAVE the functionality alone.

The worst part for me is the search, WHY. Is all I can say...
