What Should Microsoft Name The Xbox 360 Successor, Xbox 720?

Boston (TheNextXbox) – Microsoft has a major decision on their hands with the successor to the Xbox 360. What they need to do is to come up with a name for the next-generation Xbox. We have put together a list of names in hopes that our readers would help Microsoft in their path to choosing the best Xbox name possible.

360 is a full circle so is the 8 its a never ending number ! For Chinese the number 8 is considered lucky just like the number 7 is
considered lucky in the West....

so will xbox use the 8 or will they come up with a brand new name for it...and do away with xbox

They will never go with that because consumers will think itd worse than the 360 due to it being a lower number. thats why they didnt go with xbox 2, because it sounded inferior to ps3. I guess infinity is more likely.

I disagree. Xbox 8 falls in line with the current Windows 8 stuff which is what Microsoft wants to put across. I understand Xbox 2 to the PS3 thing but I think the Xbox is past that now in terms of brand recognition. Everyone knows what the Xbox brand is. It is making them see Xbox is Microsoft and realising how all Microsoft products connect together now which is what 8 does (with Windows 8.....).

definition of apparently: As far as one knows or can see.
apparently does not mean it is certain i am just saying that with the information available so far about the next xbox it is rumoured that it will have a name change and that it would likely be called xbox 8.
also no i don't know, if anyone knew then we would be here discussing the next xbox name now would we?

I agree it will be 8 and not 720. 720 is just double 360 and that is why it has stuck. 8 falls in line with the Microsoft line and like wr4ITH66 said the number 8 has multiple meanings and significance. I disagree with the other stuff he says

Well they named it the 360 because Xbox 2 would look inferior PS3. I think it will either have a 4 or "four,for,fore" or since it's rumored PS4 will take a new name, maybe INFINITY or Xbox∞ because of Win 8.

Xbox Infinity sounds pretty damn cool, I admit. I hope the PS4 is called just that, PS4. Just because in Japan 4 is an unlucky number, doesn't mean they won't name it that.

I actually don't care too much what they NAME these new consoles. I want to see the games and services!!!!

It will be 8, but not really. It's going to be called Infinity (an 8 on its side). Infinity because it's going to be the last full blown console before 100% cloud based gaming.

Anything but Xbox 720, as 720 would likely to be associated with 720p, something I'm sure Microsoft wants to avoid, as their next console will likely fully support at least 1080p for all the games.

Naming it anything aside from Xbox 720 is pointless. Though unofficial, the whole gaming world for YEARS already associates the next xbox console with that name...

Not only that but to name your THIRD console xbox EIGHT is the absolute dumbest fucking this i have ever heard in my entire life.

I dont think microsoft is that stupid, especially when Windows 8 is getting terrible reviews across the board!
