Suicide Or Genius For Microsoft To Release Xbox 720 In June?

Boston (TheNextXbox) – Microsoft and Major Nelson have come out and started a countdown for the next-generation Xbox 720, the successor to the Xbox 360. Is this countdown to the announcement or the actual launch of the next-generation console?

There are many people out there who are arguing whether or not it is either genius or suicide for Microsoft to actually release the Xbox 720 at this particular time. (Microsoft, Next-Gen)

It's the announcement numb knuts! E3 is in June.

Here is how they always market: announcement, Pre-order, HYPE (Leak specs); HYPE (Game trailers and pic); HYPE; then release for the holidays (Hopefully for Black Friday).

You are welcome.

I agree. They are not going to release it in June because they would need to unveil it now. It will be revealed at E3 with it being release later (before Black Friday) or if something goes wrong the following year

Playstation should announce now and release soon at tax time. They cannot afford to let xbox get a head start or launch at the same time. They shoulda seen this coming. Announce late 2012, release in late february, early march.

"Suicide Or Genius" It's even worded in a manner to attempt to create an argument/"discussion" ; seems no one took the bait. xD

Fail article is fail.

So is your reply called a failed response since you didn't elaborate on the possibility? It was meant to think of the outcome if indeed they do release it in June. Obviously they are only thinking there could only be two drastic measures. One of being a genius move that would really give the new Xbox a great start. The other is that it would be a stupid move.

I never really thought of the possibility of a June release but it could be a bold move. Problem is you would have to somehow keep it all secret but still have talks with retailers. I don't see that happening without major leaks. You also need to build some pre-hype so that consumers have a chance to prepare themselves. This isn't like the launch of a new iPhone where people expect a new one or two per year and are ready for it.

June could be a good month because early adopters will buy one regardless of the time of year and then you hit the busy holiday season. Keeping the momentum strong. Right now the Wii U isn't getting much hype. It's a slow time of the year and the hype has sort of died off. Would the Wii U have been better off in June? Get the early people who pre-ordered out of the way, have new systems in stock before Christmas and have a bunch of games coming? Hard to say but it does bring up an interesting option.

How would his reply be a fail?

The article fails because the scenario it posits is improbable, at best. Rush's comment merely points that out, and the author's attempt at forcing a discussion out of this extremely unlikely scenario.

You even mention some of the very reasons why such a release is unlikely, yourself. To add to what you said, there's also the usual drought of games in the summer- meaning fewer multiplats at launch- means less incentive to pick one up, to boot.

You talk about keeping momentum strong, but that has to assume there's momentum in the first place.

Seems obvious the countdown would only apply to a possible announcement.

I haven't heard if they've even resolved their chip mfg. issues. Last I'd read - and admittedly I may have missed something - this particular problem called into question whether a release at the tail end of 2013 was still possible.

So June launch = not bloody likely.

Yeah I heard they made the deadline. Probably just barely but they made it. Im telling you all, have been for a while. After no announcement last year it seemed VERY clear to me that Holiday 2013 is gonna be release. 2012 was squeezing the last juice out of the fruits of their labour, even though the console is still selling OKAY...it's time. It's been long enough, and if they announced last year they may have killed sales early.

As if a June release would make or break a console....pffft...

Uh, this article is NULL and Void...not going to happen...I did not even bother to read it...why the heck waste my time..
jeenyus  +   596d ago
Totally agree. The article is just trying to grab attention. June=E3, that's it.

PS4 will come before 720.

I can't wait :D
blackbirdi  +   596d ago
thats impossible ...they have to market a game at least a year before the launch

It all depends of how good the next xbox will be.
nirwanda  +   596d ago
Exactly, I bought a 360 last time at launch as I knew the ps3 wouldn't be a massive leap, but this time the ps4, 720 and steambox will release all around the same time, so I will wait to see which machine has the best specs and the best exclusives will follow

not a day one purchase for me..seeing MS history with the 360 hardware i will probably wait for like a year or two..and when they start to get serious on the hardcore side not the kinect casual side

OMG!!! This article is the Ultimate Fail!!

How can anyone think Xbox 720 could ever get released in June 2013, without a hint of pre-build up? previews? or any media blow outs...and in such a tiny launch window??

MS haven't even officially announced its name yet...LMFAO!!!!

The Writer is a very silly Rabbit indeed!

somebody didn't so research....People should have to pass a test before they can report " articles" online.
esemce  +   596d ago
Will not happen, stupid to even think so.
GraveLord  +   596d ago
That would be suicide as people are out and about having fun in the summer months, not playing games or buying new consoles. If you can't make the holidays, then Q1 of the year it the best time to release since these are the winter months where everyone is at home.
rainslacker  +   596d ago
I dunno, this could go both ways. A lot of people that pick up a new system would buy one regardless of season. You get those during the summer months, then get the holiday shoppers after the summer is over.

However, I do think a release around the holiday season helps sell the system on that "new and exciting" feel, and that can go a long way during the holiday shopping frenzy.

Overall though it wouldn't be suicide. The system would still sell. It would possibly just look bad since it may not sell as much in it's initial months.

I'm just going to go ahead and ignore every opinion piece and rumor article until E3...

Hoolyy fail. How come people don't think before writing? The console is announced and showcased in June. And released in November.

That's how it usually is.

Its never released after announcement because MS has pricing, shipping units, games, ad campaigns/marketing and final hardware specs to sort out.

Sigh...these opinion pieces.

Another dumb sensational article that will not get my click through.

Of course they are not going to launch the console in June. They may announce it, but they just wont up and launch it.

Duh. Do you retards who write these articles not realize how marketing works?
