GU: Top 5 Gaming Tracks of 2012

GU Writer Jake Thomas - "It is definitely indisputable that the music, while not the number 1 deciding factor, is extremely important in making a great game. Great tracks set the mood, evokes emotion, and brings forth a new dimension of experience to the player. Where would a game like Shadow of the Colossus be without an epic soundtrack that bears down on the user with a stare as direct and powerful as the Colossi themselves. Music in all forms of media brings the ordinary, or the great, the extraordinary or fantastic.

I personally spend a lot of time invested as part of the indie and underground music communities of the internet. As such, a lot of video game music just doesn’t cut it for me. I bear little interest in a lot of bleeps and bloops, or cookie cutter orchestrations that litter a lot of games today. However, from the nagging of many others, and the inspiration of the myriad of games I experience this year, I noticed something great. I laid my pretentious ears on some pretty awesome music." (Culture, Hotline Miami, Journey, Max Payne 3 , PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Sound Shapes)
