THQ individual franchises up for grabs, more show up to bid

JS:The Twitter feed for Distressed Debt Investing has been doing courtroom reporting, noting that the judge has set an auction date of January 22 where THQ assets could be sold individually. It's also been reported that Electronic Arts is now among the bidders. Warner Bros. has also been acknowledged as sniffing around, along with several others. (Industry, THQ)

Update After adjourning its first hearing today, THQ reconvened at 3:00PM and announced that a compromised was made among various parties. A form of order has yet to be presented but the general takeaways:
Bids are due 9am January 22nd
Auction will be held 3pm on January 22nd
Sale Hearing January 23rd at 9am
The auction will allow for bidders to bid on only certain assets (titles, studios, etc) in the auction

Reminds me of a bunch of vultures picking at a corpse. EA better not get any of the big franchises, dont care if they take WWE those games were subpar anyway.

@NYC
Didnt Ubisoft show intrest for some franchises?

I believe the big franchises will be split between EA & Warner Bros...

@majiebeast

Could Ubisoft really afford to out bid EA or Warner?

Well, we all knew it was bound to happen. I hope whoever gets the franchises absorbs some of the more talented programmers, designers and artists so they don't all lose their jobs.

I'll be interested to see where Saint's, Darksiders, Red Faction and Company of Heroes go. Saint's seems like an obvious pick-up for EA. They need a sandbox franchise. Also, they have the teams in place for Company of Heroes. It's hard to say who Darksiders and Red Faction will be best with.

EA will get WWE, Saint's Row (EA has their own GTA)

Warner will get Company of Heroes & Metro (EA doesn't need another shooter, or RTS)
I wish Metro when to CD Projekt. But that won't happen.

Warner Bros should grab Darksiders and Red Faction
Take Two should own the Metro franchise
EA should grab WWE and Warhammer 40000
Ubisoft could turn Homefront into a great Franchise and also take on Company of Heroes
Microsoft could use an exclusive open world sandbox like Saints Row
Sony should continue to push for new Ip's and support guillermo's del toro Insane

I'm not a fan of Saints Row but i'd rather the franchise stay multi-platform

I'd love to see them get WWE, it's a match made in heaven.

I think we are going to see a lot of bidders if the auction time frame hits without an approved sale. I fully expect all major Publishers including the likes of MS and Sony to dip their toes in the process.

The only THQ franchise I care about is Summoner, and they stopped making those games a long time ago.

I wonder who will buy Darksiders?
Rampaged Death  +   709d ago
Warner seems like a perfect home for Darksiders
ApolloTheBoss  +   709d ago
Warner or Ubisoft is fine by me. So long as they don't milk it every year.
Rampaged Death  +   709d ago
Anyone but EA or Activision !

I hope someone great picks up the Darksiders IP, if it falls in the hands of someone awful, I'm afraid it might turn out the way Turok did after acclaim died.

I kind of want Nintendo to get Darksiders. It would be pretty cool if they got Saints Row. Ahhhh wishful thinking..... No matter what I just hope everyone that was working can continue to do so.
Plagasx  +   709d ago
EA...YOU GET YOUR DAMN HANDS OFF METRO!
Rayansaki  +   709d ago
Hope Ubi manages to get Saints Row, It would be a disaster if it went to EA.
