Media is relentless :/
It's their job to be. Ratings/Hits = Popularity/Money
@logic Their jobs are to report factual news or rumors with a high probability of truth to it, not assume a likely launch will hurt Sony & Ms.
Logicwins. Your statement is what's happening now in the game media. That is why video games are seen as juvenile and not mainstream. Our own media hurts the industry more than the sex and violence in video games. The journalism today is unresearched, uninspired, petty, and downright fabricated most of the time. They represent us for the worse and are detriment to video games. Most of the media today don't even have a staff for interviews, research, travel, and interaction with developers. Stuff is made up on the spot. Then for the next week we hear 50 counter arguments from other no name no credibility websites. DOOM AND GLOOM edit Speculation is one thing being a cheerleader for hits is another. Analyists speculate, media reports facts. Question mark articles are just fishing for hits. Question mark articles are the norm in this industry. Is Sony dead? Is Vita dead? etc etc. You miss the point. It's not journalism. It reports nothing other than a fishing for hits rant. Journalism is a report of facts who, what, when , where, and why. Articles like this present nothing on a factual basis. It's fabricated to create buzz, hits, and comments with the intent to stir up the gaming community. You fail to live up to your name. Logicwins You are right in some regards to American media, but it doesn't change the fact that video game journalists are the most immature and least factual of all. Blaming poor reporting on some of the mainstream media doesn't change the fact game media is worst of all the media out there. Finally your last statement is an oxymoron. You call others immature then going on to call names. Not all of us gamers are young we are sick of our hobby being hijacked by juvinile journalism. The average gaming age is 36. the average article looks like it's being written by scornful kids.
"Their jobs are to report factual news or rumors with a high probability of truth to it, not assume a likely launch will hurt Sony & Ms." The media can ALSO speculate..which is what this article is..speculation. If that speculation happens to be negative, does that automatically mean its less valid than a positive one? Would you be complaining if the title was "Could an early PS4 reveal help Sony?" @mandf- American media in general has its issues. They only give a summary of what happened, as opposed to a full investigation. They also hide the truth. Ever wonder why we never here about the dozens of innocent women/children we've killed in Afghanistan with drone strikes? However, this rarely bothers me because I have very low expectations for the media. I expect the worst and hope for the best. "Your statement is what's happening now in the game media" And immature gamers are the ones who keep that vicious cycle running. If your crazy enough to believe the crap the media tells you, then the problem is YOU. The media gets their power from readers/watchers. If you don't like what they put out, ignore them. The main purpose of N4G is to generate gaming MEDIA..yet it's clear you have a problem with the media. If it bothers you that much, why not leave?
"It's fabricated to create buzz, hits, and comments with the intent to stir up the gaming community. You fail to live up to your name." You realized that your agreeing with me right? You just PROVED what I wrote on my initial comment. "Finally your last statement is an oxymoron. You call others immature then going on to call names. Not all of us gamers are young we are sick of our hobby being hijacked by juvinile journalism. The average gaming age is 36." A person whose 36 can't be immature?
@mandf: "You are right in some regards to American media, but it doesn't change the fact that video game journalists are the most immature and least factual of all. Blaming poor reporting on some of the mainstream media doesn't change the fact game media is worst of all the media out there." I don't know, I would say popculture media is pretty dang immature. In other words, almost all media is immature and gaming is not at the bottom yet. That said, the media's job is to inform (regardless of it is something new, facts, rumors or as in this article an opinion) and you as the viewer gets to choose what you want to see. Online gaming news like almost all other "online news" is dependent on "hits" to generate revenue, so there is no surprise ratings/hits = popularity/money as LOGICWINS says. If you don't like it, don't read, don't give them the hits and move on. Start a club, and spread your "opinion" of how news should be or start your own site. :)
No. This gen is practically over next gen is the main focus now.
you were owned logic.
"Online gaming news like almost all other news" is dependent on "hits" to generate so there is no surprise ratings/hits = pop money as LOGICWINS says. If you don't like it, don't read, don't giv the hits and move on. Start a club, and s your "opinion" of how news should be o your own site" Well said.
That's their job to be nosy. It can be annoying to the person or company they're snooping around, but the world loves knowing someone else business. That being said as far as the article goes it, possibly, but I'm sure Sony's going to wait until late March or early May for a PS4 announcement, just to avoid disturbing game sales.
Media is relentless like LOGICWINS :/ fixed. There is no one on this site, no one that spends as much time as logicwins (oh the irony) going into articles concerning a console which they despise and supporting the attacks or else going into positive articles and attacking the console. He has even approved pro-Sony articles only to go into the same articles and attack Sony. Laughable.
mandf, you spent your 2 comment ability on stuff that didn't even reflect on the article. The article asked if an early PS4 reveal would hurt Sony. So let me make my own suggestion instead of getting caught up in the daily news within N4G that often takes a life of its own outside of what the discussion ought to be. This is the year Sony needs to make major waves with Vita. Would announcing a PS4 make any difference? Microsoft already put the flame out there with the bring it on comment and a countdown leading many to believe that is when they will unveil the new Xbox. Lastly Sony still has its roots in Japan and will they want to use E3 as a launching pad or wait for something like TGS? There are many tangibles at play for Sony. With Microsoft the answer seems clearer since the Xbox 360 is older and they don't have any other game platform to make sure attention isn't diverted. Sony doesn't want to fall behind again and let Microsoft have a year on them this time. So it could be a smart move by Microsoft to sort of force Sony's hand but they may not be ready to show anything.
MY gosh you're dense. How is he agreeing with you?
It's a fair enough question to ask if it would be a better option to reveal at E3.
I know ! Its bad if they're last and now it seems like its bad if they announce it first lol at times I just don't get journalist. However I do think they should have announce it after Microsoft. I think its always best being last because you have the spotlight all alone after everyone has already gone.
You're are right. The best console is always the one with most quality games. It has always been this way. Sony has that distinction this gen. Haters always gonna hate.
I dont see it at all in February revealing of the system. Perhaps if they showed a mock up, but to showed the machine will be a mistake, due to advertising campaing revealing most of the availability on the system, given their counterparts time to react and possibly making their system better since they still have time during the development and production cycle. Let us hope Sonys next big machine its more echo friendly with developers and get rid of that cell processor, for my income all 3 machines have the same representation and yes, I will have all 3. Problem is only 1 will get my funds, the 1 capable of showing the best copy of the game, so third party support will come to the console with the better game. Main factors in and the reason why 360 almost always had my support from third party. I hope Sony learned from the past cause I want to be confuse when purchasing games and look to see which copy is better lol...
I disagree with the comment 'giving their counterparts time to react'. That is false mainly because regardless what sony announces most likely the final specs of their counterparts have already been determined. There could be some slight tweaks but the hardware will remain the same.
at this point anything Sony does will hurt themselves according to gaming journalists
Nail on the head.
i know hicken said it, but i will say it again... NAIL ON THE HEAD.
Here in the Uk, the national newspapers have mentioned ps4 and xbox 720 will be released this year, plus sky news had a section on it plus click and gadget show have mentioned next gen consoles this year, so the mums and dads already know there being released soon but that wont stop them buying vitas, ps3`s and xbox 360 for the next 3 years for there kids like ps2 did when ps3 came out. Official announcement from sony at E3 wont hurt sales.
Won't stop them buying Vita's , PS3's and 360's and Wiiu's and 3DS's and wii's and Ds's . Fixed it for you...
No. Ps2 much better games and much better selling console ps3. Ps2 release 2000. Ps3 release 2006. 6 year. Ps4 release 2013. 7 year.
No, but that rumor about used games will definitely hurt Sony if it's true.
How about announcing the Orbis/PS4 along with a price cut for the PS3 and/or Vita! That way, it will fuel excitement for the PS4, but spur some PS3/Vita sales!
I wonder why do people keep calling the PS4 - PS4/Orbis...Orbis is the project name, just like Durango for MS720. The speculative names are Omni for the Playstation, hoping it will be called PS4 or most likely the Playstation Omni and the Xbox will be called the Xbox Infinity.
True, but it is like everyone calling Kinect, Project Natal until the official name was announced.
Ps4 is bad luck in japanese or something so i doubt theyll call it the ps4.
Really? Is that true? Does anyone know what it means?
@harrisk The number 4 in japan is pronounced the same as the word for death (shi). 9 is also sometimes pronounced "ku", which can mean suffering, so it sometimes also considered unlucky. Just like some Americans, some Japanese people are superstitious, so it can have a negative connotation to it. However, the Japanese people recognize the number 4 for what it is, the same way we recognize, say the number 13.
The problem is that changing the name of the Playstation outside Japan could cause people confusion and reduce the sales. I don't know why it does but people don't really like change.
