Final Fantasy Versus XIII: From 2006 'till 2013 and Beyond

Barret Wallace said, “There’s no gettin’ off this train we on ’til we reach the end of the line!” This rings true for Versus XIII. From the start of this project back in 2006 until now, news has been slow to start. However, the news is still there! I have never seen so many rumors about this game, but with the slow drip on updates, rumors are expected. (Final Fantasy XV, Industry, Next-Gen, PS3, Square Enix)

this is still and will always be one of my most anticipated games ever, Mr. Nomura can take all the time he wants to craft this masterpiece! i just hope Sony don't do a lazy job and advertise the game well when it's near release

Yup, everything is Sony's fault - no blame should be placed on Square Enix for their gross mismanagement of this title.

It's also completely Sony's responsibility to drag out the hype from the gutter and market a third party title that Nomura himself decided to make PS3 exclusive. Square Enix made their bed by themselves and now should lie in it. Your bizarre hatred for anything Sony shows too easily.

like MS's ad campaign helped sell FF13 on 360s? Much less assured the quality of the game.

Another vaporware title.

They should change the name to Final Fantasy Forever.

I was 16 when the first trailer came out. I'm 23 now.

You mean the cg trailer they showed way before they even started developing the game? Development started in 2009 after a bunch of delays and creative disagreements. 2011 was the first gameplay trailer.
tigertron  +   717d ago
Yeah, they shouldn't have given us a trailer before they've even started, and even in 2009 with the first gameplay trailer, it's still taken them four years.

2011 was the first gameplay trailer, not 2009; he literally JUST said it in the comment you responded to.

Versus was announced as one game in the Fabula Nova Crystalis, an ambitious project by Square-Enix that could well have been more than they could handle. Development across the board hasn't been as easy this generation as they thought, so the games we expected- and they expected- to have out already have either been delayed or altered significantly since they began.

Final Fantasy XIII was originally a PS2 title, and made quite a few changes before it was released, including becoming multiplatform. The changes made brought about the creation of sequels that were never intended, while they delays pushed other games back. Struggles with FFXIV have also hampered production of other titles, chief among them the final game in the FNC, Versus.

This has gotten far longer than I intended to be, and I had no thoughts of making excuses for Square-Enix, but we've gotten our hopes up as much as- if not more than- they have, so it's not really right to blame only them.

Do I want Versus? Hell yeah. Am I mad Type-0 hasn't been released in the West? You bet. But me bitching and complaining about things won't make them happen any faster. While I wait- because I can't really do much else- I'll approach current/previous games with an open mind, and try to appreciate them for what they are, instead of judging them by what they aren't.

I meant 2011.

@Hicken
Agree 100% on what you say. Good to read with someone who actually knows his facts about square-enix instead of saying some false information that happens alot.

But how it goes the bigger the fan base the harder its going to please everyone and alot who will be very pist on not getting what they want. Alot of fans have this set list on what should be a Final Fantasy game which is funny because thats Square-enix to decide on what they think it is for the next game. You might not like it but its still a FF game because square-enix created it.

"Final Fantasy Versus XIII From 2006 to 2013"

A whole lot of nothing.
abzdine  +   717d ago
i'm quite sure this game will disappoint, if it releases one day!
jagstar44  +   717d ago
i think someone needs to teach square enix not to announce games years before release, just do it like everyone else, announce it like a year and a bit before it's supposed to ship

Breaking News FFvs13 is changing its name to the new Duke Nukem. Seriously Square has become a big joke this gen the only thing saving them has been their games from Eidos.
TheRealHeisenberg  +   717d ago
The delay is because this game will be multiplat. Bookmark this comment.

absolutely looking forward to the game and I don't think it will disappoint as long at succeeds in everything it said. fast battle system, deep characters, world map, towns and a tragic love story. As a big fan of noir though versus is already perfection for me.

Versus XIII lasted a whole generation to actually start to plan and execute production.

The trailers for this game make the waiting justified but how longer production will take? (same thing applies to Last Guardian)

My prediction is March-April 2014 for western release. The PS4 probably will already be announced by that time and PS3 is at its peak so we might end with a blast.
