Mother: 'Minecraft' helped my 9-year old son with Asperger's to read and write

XMNR: "Minecraft" is essentially a title that lets you do almost anything and caters to different mindsets. The Creative Mode can allow the artistic to build gargantuan pieces of art from the game's blocks and the logical minded to make complex contraptions. As one Swedish mother reveled Saturday, it has helped her 9-year old son with Asperger's to learn how to read and write plus improved his social skills. (Minecraft, PC)

Great stuff, yet this will never make the headlines in the tabloids because it sheds a positive light on video games.

Exactly, but if Minecraft "brainwashed" someone of a weak state of mind and made him go murder people "because he thought he was a lone survivor and people were zombies from Minecraft", FOX and BBC news would be spewing it worldwide.

OT: Good for him, i love stories like these, just like the story a while back about GT5 teaching a guy recover his muscle control by playing GT5 on a steering wheel and pedals.

Touching stuff that should be publicised more =)

its because as sad as it sounds a majority of people thrive on negativity and negative stories are always far more popular.

I went off games ( a bit) at about 16. Got really hooked on Mary J and Smokes , and then when I quit , Spending all my money and time on Games helped me quit....

If u can find a way to balance the two it will be a wild ride lol.

Halo for the colours
God of war for the epic
Battlefield for the OH SH*T factor

But in all seriousness it's good u got off it if u were addicted. I handle it in amounts (in Canada) so it's not a problem. Plus it's cheap here lol

Thanks you guys...

Yeh , I'm from Manchester England. I'm 21 now , And I was smoking a couple of grams of the strongest skunk pretty much every day.

When I was 16 I partied too hard , did a whole load of crazy things and lost touch with the ''gamer'' within. But it was about the time I started to go crazy I decided to quit.

First off it was food , But then I turned to Gaming and the whole was filled.....

If you were able to do the switch, then you are a very disciplined person, not an addict. Who knows what you can achieve with a different focus

I have a friend that learned to read properly playing through Ocarina of Time back on N64. He was a slow learner, always had problems in school because of his inability to read. He was motivated to complete OOT though, being the magical game that it was despite the excessive reading of texts that was required of him. He had no choice but to force himself to understand of course, and at the end of it all, he came out a better reader and a satisfied gamer.

Thank you, Nintendo.

B-but we all know that this'll make him grow up to be a murderer! If he even thinks about a creeper, he'll snap! Damn video games and their evil ways...

Love this story. I think my nephew if not for games, he'd be behind in school dramatically, but he also plays minecraft too though, maybe its that game!! haha whatever it is, it's going great for this kid, and my nephew.
