EDGE - Yosuke Hayashi, head of Team Ninja and director of Ninja Gaiden 3 and upcoming Wii U revision Razor’s Edge, has poured scorn on the claim last year by Metro: Last Light developer 4A that Nintendo’s new console was hamstrung by a “horrible, slow” CPU.
Regardless, I am having a blast with my Wii U, and it will serve nicely as a compliment to one of the next gen machines from Sony or MS.
The console def is next gen.
There just needs to be a balance.
How much better is Trine 2 really on the Wii U anyway? All 3 console versions run at 1280x720 with FXAA. I own Trine 2 on the PC and it looked great at 1920x1080 on the max settings but I can't imagine any 720p console version looking that much better(if any) than another side-scrolling 3D game like Little Big Planet 2.
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...
you can see for yourself. While it's true that all 3 consoles run at 1280x720p, the PS3 and 360 use a dynamic resolution scaling technique to help maintain it's framerate (meaning that the resolution will dip below 720p at times to help keep it at its 30FPS), where as on the Wii U it is natively locked at 720p and that framerate.
The Wii U version also uses higher resolution textures and foliage assets.
Frozenbyte also went on record stating that the reason why the Goblin Menace DLC was not released for the 360 and PS3 was due to the fact that those extra levels are too demanding and they would have to make some sacrifices to have them run on those consoles.

Obviously the PC version is the definitive one, and I never said anything other than that. But console wise, the Wii U version is clearly the best.
For anyone stating that Trine 2 isn't a very demanding game, then you aren't helping your argument at all. If that was the case, then the PS3 or 360 would have no problem keeping up with the Wii U version.
Anyways, just my 2 cents.
The Team Ninja Boss needs to STFU until Tomonbu Itagaki returns to Team Ninja, to make great Ninja Gaiden games again! Currently, its a POS Team Ninja!
Until then STFU, Please!

Did he defend the gpu or the fact that team ninja barely even took advantage of the controller?
Maybe next gen but team ninja didn't care to try to fully take advantage of it's features.
Nintendo just putting themselves into the position of being the odd console again. Unless both MS and Sony have screen controllers wiiU will just get ported tacked on features from 3rd party devs. And the casual market not being as excited this time around doesn't help.
Those who don't push visuals say it powerful(trine 2 devs, team ninja).
Those who push technology are not impressed. (Dice, 4A).
Crytek says it's as good and somewhat better than xbox and ps3.
" Crysis series, more than functions on Wii U. It actually runs beautifully. Wii U is minimum on par with the current generation."

The best thing I like about wiiU is the ability to stream my games around the home and Nvidia made that possible today with pc quality! Turns out I could stream from pc to android to tv.
Plug and play in any room. :)
It's funny how people here claim that Trine 2 is such a weak game, but yet the 360 and PS3 have trouble keeping up.
Plus power isnt referred to the graphics just the over all ghz ect architecture is what's important.
POWER POWER POWER POWER POWER means zero if the console can't be maxed out consoles need balanced hardware adding tons of power just makes your electricity bill higher and ends up with more problems like over heating burning components ect basically the more power the more unreliable END OF,Power doesnt mean graphics just numbers.
I assume you're saying this matter-of-factly based on some rumors you read in some shady websites? I'll let you know: I read some rumors somewhere that the PS4 would be closer in power to the Wii U, and the 720 would be the most powerful. Weird, uh?
There's a lesson to learn here: rumors aren't worth shit.
-face palm-
What kind of Nintendo fan do you think you are? The only thing you do is defend the graphical capabilities of the Wii U. You dont even mention on how the controller can add to the gameplay. Miyamoto would be ashamed of you for placing graphics over gameplay.
So what if the Wii U is a little bit more powerful than the 360. Isn´t the most important aspect of games gameplay and not graphics? Which is why you should be bragging about the controller instead of the Wii U graphics capabilities.
If all you care about are graphics then buy yourself a gaming PC.
@SolidSystem
It will probably be a repeat of last gen. Basically the Wii U will have the most innovative control scheme but it will be so underpowered that most games for the 720 and PS4 wont run on it(this is what most Wii U purchasers fear like Metroid32). The 720 and the PS4 will be about the same with Microsoft concentrating on Kinect and services while Sony will focus on the core.
I'll do the same with the PS4... in fact, I just bought my PS3 the last black friday.
"Nintendo has given money to him, definitely . :-D" are u dumb?
Managing 2 screens in zombiU or Nintendo land requires a new skill in gaming , one that is very fun.
I don't think you guys who bought it need to worry much about the lack of power for the next 2 years and by then, you will own a PS4 or Xbox3 anyways, so who gives a shit.
As for the power:
The new Xbox and PS consoles are probably going to be a lot more powerful, but it wont matter much for a few years for a couple reasons.
1. Cross Platform Development:
Costs are increasing significantly, so to recoupe the costs, most games are going to be cross-platform, this means that they will be targeted to the lowest common denominator they are releasing for.
Exclusives will be different, but there are less and less exclusives that matter these days.
Currently, we can all probably agree that the PS3 is "more powerful" than the Xbox 360, but it doesn't matter and only idiots argue about it anymore because the games most people play are cross platform and virtually identical on both systems. Did the extra power do much for Sony? No. It has hurt them actually because of the increased cost of the system at release, lost sales due to that extra power and their company profit balance sheet, which is hurting big time.
Basically, those developers that aim for all three platforms will make the games virtually identical. So the added power of the Xbox/PS4 will be useless for the first few years. This will change of course, but not initially.
For example, when the Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox competed against each other, most games were multi-platform and while the Xbox was the better system, anything cross platform barely took advantage of it. You would see a few extra texture effects and that was it.
There were more exclusives back in this time though, but not anymore and there will be less going forward.
2. It takes years for Developers to take advantage of a system:
It took about 2 years for games to come out that finally started to take advantage of the Xbox 360 and PS3. The initial release of games were not impressive at all, especially for those of us with PC's. In 2008, with Gears of War, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted, we finally started to see some "WOW" games coming out. These games were totally eclipsed with what we see on these two platforms today though.
It took about 3 years before Developers started releasing games for the PS3 and Xbox360 that actually started to blow us away.
If the WiiU really is a lot less powerful than the Xbox 3 and PS4, it wont matter initially. Developers will need a few years to really start kicking ass on those systems, anyways, so the lesser power wont be a huge negative, at least initially. By 2015, it will start to matter obviously, unless the WiiU has huge sales by then and most developers target it.
Anyways, I don't own a WiiU and I do not plan on buying it so I don't care about the system much.
When people think the next xbox and playstation are going to be much more powerful, what exactly are they basing their opinions off of?
Is it that the dollar has lost 2/3 of it's value? Thus a 600 dollar PS3 would cost 1000-1200 now..perhaps more? So if they wanted to make an equal machine but on today's tech, it would cost that much.
Then when you consider they don't want it even at 600 dollars, then you realize whatever machine being made, not only is being made utilizing far more devalued money, but needs to be sold at also a lower price point OF devalued money. Then on top of that, they are going to be shipping with costly add-ons that were not in the previous version. Finally on top of that they don't want to take huge losses per console. So no 300 dollars lost per console, maybe 50 tops.
So let's recap the money aspect. Less Valuable money. Lower price point of less valuable money. Lower willingness to take a loss per console of less valuable money. More add-ons that increase the cost (Kinect 2 and hand manipulator).
Though that's just the money aspect. (and not all the money aspect)
But there's also the power problem. PC's today utilize a lot more power than PC's in 2005. Back then alot of people would have 450-600 watt power supplies.
The original 360 used a little more than 300 watts...and that helped bring us RROD. Today's PC's utilize 700-1500 watts. Definitely over 1000 if you want a great PC. The reason is that now on PC's you can utilize multiple graphics cards. So a PC can have 2 or 3x GTX 670's. Or 2x GTX 690's. People don't realize how much power this sort of stuff sucks up. It is impossible to provide this sort of performance without the power.....
....and the PS4 an 720 won't be using 700-1500 watts. At best it won't even match the power used with the 360...seeing how they want to avoid Red Ring of Death or other reliability problems.
So basically you have a situation where consoles want to remain in the 200-300 watt range versus PC's that utilize 700-1500 watts. As you can see, there is no way in hell a console can compete with a PC in terms of raw power.
So you have a situation where to increase performance, wattage was upped, but for the consoles this generation, they want to take the wattage DOWN from last generation.
If they wanted to increase the wattage and provide multiple graphics cards, well then not only would the cost skyrocket, so would the prospects for overheating and new RROD type problems.
It will take years to get the most out of any console, and consoles have advantages that allow them to get more out of less power. But the gap is quite wide compared to PC's, and many people would say even with the highest end PC setup, it really isn't even a generational leap between the 360 and a top end 2013 PC. Oh it's significantly faster, higher res, better textures, and has DX11. But really, it seems more like a 1/2 step. It's getting there, but still not really there.
720 and PS4 won't reach that, and the Wii U soaks up most in between, thus I don't see 720 or PS4 being majorly faster. I see it as having stronger parts for sure and probably a good deal more ram. But I don't see them as being massively better than a Wii U.
Besides it takes hundreds of percent faster to make a real difference. I mean if wii u has 4x AA and 720/PS4 have 8x or 16x....whoa...not really.
I see a PS4/720 as having higher AA, better physics, and the ability to load slightly better rez textures (like a notch or so worth). So I see it being better for sure, but not by a lot. What I describe isn't very much difference, yet it might take 200 percent more power to achieve. (which goes to show you how much you have to increase power to do so little). I see the PS4/720 as probably not even being half that much better.
Wiiu is more powerful than ps360 and it uses less watts. The next XBOX/PS will have higher watts and more ram. And if MS/sony dont waste money on a tablet controller it wont cost much more than wiiu to get than extra power.
On the power though, I really dislike how bad you are speaking about trying to make the PS3 the most powerful console. I mean this is a gamer site, why would anyone be upset about that? How else do u think we would have gotten these graphics heavy and great gameplay franchises like Killzone, Uncharted, GOW, etc?
If theres anything Sony should take away from this generation, it's that it is important to be competitive, which means release asap, as consumers will not wait. I really want to see the numbers if the PS4/ 720 release within a 3 month period, because then it's...
GAME ON!
A game you put out - broken - on "last gen" systems at that.
Though I honestly want to get a Wii U (at the moment) for NG3 Razor's Edge.
edit: fixed Dead or Alive spelling
No difference for Ps3 it didnt take them years and years to have games that screamed or looked next gen. You robots on here keep saying the same thing over and over when its lies!!!! Heavenly sword was released not too long after ps3 release (def before three or two years) and looked awesome graphically better than anything the gen before. Resistance launched with Ps3 and looked awesome and had great next gen online capabilities and received high marks because of it and as reviewers stated had next gen written all over it. Mgs4 one of the best games of all times and a graphical beast came out middle of 2008 while the ps3 was released early 2007 in the states (thats only like a year and half later) and that game is a fan favorite forever......
Stop with the excuses ppl because ps3 had at launch and had shortly after games that were graphically superior in every way to the gen before it and even games that hold their own now against new releases. It may have taken most devs three or more years to truly tap the ps3 and make all around solid games but some devs from the start made games that looked awesome and next gen and a year and a half later arguably one of the best games of all time.
I dont knock Nintendo but lets call a spade a spade. Wii u has good games (current gen ones) and that is the problem nothing upon release screamed next gen, nothing showed that. Respect it for what it is another system we can play current gen games on and soon to be cool first party games like Zelda and so on but dont come on here saying we havent seen any games that look next gen because it takes systems years and years to pump those out thats not true. If anything Ninetndo themselves should have had a Mario game that showed this but they didnt they had a safe good looking mario game that for the most part could have been done on the original wii.
For the ppl saying that the next Ps4 wont be powerful lol keep saying it yourself while we end up playing those awesome games. Ps4 will def without a doubt be a noticeable diff. from the wii u in every way. Sony track history with hardware as of late dictates this and Sony has even gone on record insinuating this. Ps4 will be around 400 to 450 and will pack quite a punch bcus it will still have blue ray that will save on costs and can focus money on the cpu and gpu. Sony knows they need something that sets them apart from the competition besides just awesome first party games and that is power!!!!! They know they have some core gamers that make up sales and look forward to that they cant just settle for casual market bcus too many ppl invested in that and that wont set them apart and make ppl want to buy their system when they can have casual on wii u and kinect for cheaper. So they pack power and sell to both core and casual.
I like making fun of insecure fan boys like you. I'm a hardcore gamer and I refuse to limit myself to one console or company. I like both Nintendo and Sony. How bout that a hardcore gamer that plays both Nintendo and Sony exclusives.
@Divine(ASS)ault: I love how he tries to take sneak jabs at Nintendo and pull out ridiculous numbers out of his ass!
"not many devs will build games just for that system.. If they do, 90% will NOT be core titles"
Please, show me where you so intelligently cam up with 90%... You CAN'T!
For someone that acts so much like a Sony elites, you sure are glued to any and everything that has Nintendo headlined on it! lol Everything is a cartoon in your eyes and if it was the case then why bother wasting your time on everything that has to do with Nintendo? I see you comment on Bayonetta and how you can't wait, but wait, it's on a Nintendo platform, it has to be cartoony... lmao Whatever dude!
There is truly some power under the hood of the Wii U maybe not true next gen power but enough to be able to make anything that was made this generation and more without breaking a sweat. Now brace yourself because here's the truth...
This gen we seen a massive overhaul in graphics! From the undead likes of Dark Souls, to the photo realistic facial animations of L.A. Noire. The Wii was NOT able to get anywhere near these visuals and thus these games never came to it, but the fact is that the Wii U will be able to expand on these games and continue to make awesome graphics like these. Now if Nintendo or any third-party devs want to make cartoon type games they're going to be able to no sweat, but when other developers choose to create a game and want to make it a mature rated title that looks real, they're going to be able to do that too!
I don't understand how someone that claims to be a hardcore gamer, has such an illogical thought process. Maybe it's the fanboy in you but if you think that the Wii U is only capable of outputting cartoon style graphics, then your truly living in ignorance! From what I hear is that ignorance is bliss so I will continue to let you live in that ignorance and will block you starting today. Enjoy your elitist ways my friend!
(Oh, and get Mega Man, then get Banjo back so Retro can make Threeie)
Of course we're basing it on the processor. Even if we weren't, then we have nothing more than a consolized DS. Something we have two different portables for. Three if you include the Vita.
But these articles are getting very tired! If the argument about hardware being more advanced than another system in its respective generation stands, and that's what makes it next-gen. Then both the xbox an GC were in a different generation beyond the PS2, because both of those systems had more advanced hardware then the PS2 could muster up.
LoL hahahahahahahahah :P ofc it isn't it's crap it have about 1/3 cpu clock spd compare to PS3, just think how pathetic excuse for a console will be when PS4 launch..
It's hilarious to just think about it :P, even a hacker who open it & check the garbage hardware Ninti put inside say that it's so slow that it isn't funny & cant even run mp games from PS3/xbox with descent frame rates when those consoles r 6-7 years old.
I have just 1 thing to say, WiiU owners forget mp games in the future what happen with Wii & the absent of famous mp titles is going to happen again with WiiU, so unless u want the console for mario/zelda etc then better think it twice before u spent your hard-earned money, I'm just saying..
"..in the future" ?
Lets see if Wii U can run games from PS4 the truth will be revealed sooner or later & then all those fanatics who support WiiU now will become the laughing stock of the inter-webZ.
And Wii U a laughing stock? If its first party titles are anything like what the Wii got I really dont see that happening. If I recall some of the highest rated titles of this gen were on the Wii... titles which I can also play on my Wii U coincidentaly
Okay clock speed doesn't necessarily mean jack sh*t if the architecture is new and optimized. If I got an Intel core i5 processor that's clocked at 2.2Ghz and put against a Intel Core 2 Quad processor that is clocked 2.8Ghz, The Intel Core i5 will beat it because of its new and efficient architecture. As a computer science major it pains me to read all the comments on Youtube and Gaming websites where people blindly talk about each consoles power without actual knowledge.
...when you don't fuck up Ninja Gaiden. Thanks.
