Defending Papo & Yo, my personal Game of the Year

VB - After its release, I found myself getting into discussions online about whether or not Papo & Yo is a “good game.” While I’m not going to say that I convinced myself the game would be universally loved, I did believe that for the most part, people would have positive reactions to it. This has not been the case, and I found myself going on a few minirants, trying to defend my opinion about P&Y. Well, it’s the time of the year when many gamers and news sites are making their Game of the Year lists, and I’d like to take a moment to explain just why Papo & Yo is so special to me and why it deserves to be my own personal GotY. (Papo & Yo, PS3)

I seen the review where IGN rip them a new one but I dont think the game is that bad. I may download later but I am over my head in games for both PS3 and Vita.

I like Papo & Yo, but it isn't polished like Journey. I certainly respect the creator's work, and the complexity of the design and puzzles, but enjoying a game and saying it goes above and beyond all others in a respective time period are two different things. Sure, it can be GOTY for the author... it is their personal pick, but the author needs to ask if he is lying to himself about where the game stands among other offerings of 2012.

When it comes to being able to like P&Y like he does, there NO such thing as lying to yourself when it comes to appreciating what it set out to as opposed to what mired it from doing it fully. I myself alluded to that in my own user review:

The music was so full of ear candy, I decided to buy the soundtrack via psn.

Great game, & don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. Not really game of the year though, as it's not a FPS, & we all know that ONLY war based FPS's deserve GOTY status. I will be getting this game though.
