High-street retailers GAME are teaming up with Microsoft to reward gamers with a series of exclusive midnight launch achievements and more.
Dear Lord, just how far will this go? Exclusive games to exclusive DLC to exclusive 'Achievements'. What next, exclusive box art? Surely we're not going to see GAME advertising on the Dashboard?
We're already starting to see retailer exclusive box art. I'm pretty sure Gamestop secured some for The Walking Dead retail edition. GAME advertising on the dash seems like the logical next step for them.
They basicly have had exclusive box art. In the US, when Dead Island came out, GameStop had a free upgrade to the Special Edtion for free. It had its own box art and you could only get it from GameStop. http://www.hotbloodedgaming...
The achievement name will be "Impatient".
Well now im sure the achivement system is actually broken for good!Exclusive achivements for stores sales what stupidity, achivements, trophys should be scratch for the next genaration for good, them actually people will start buying and playing games for the fun of playing and we the player can get back to the old usefull rewards and unlockeds that use to be in games.
Wow. This is pathetic. I am an achievement hunter, and I don't care whether it is included in the 1000g or not (in this case it isn't), but PAYING for achievements is f***ing low. What a dog act on both GAME and Microsofts part. I hope other 360 gamers are disgusted as I am. Whether it matters to you or not, surely you can see some ethically wrong thing here? This gen is f***ed. Next gen is going to be worse.
I dont see how your paying for this achievement any more than other achievements. I actually think it's a half decent reward for those people who pointlessly go to midnight launches.
Hell you need all the rewards you can get.. I get my games off shopto so have no need for midnight launches (usually get a day early) however I've heard that GAME employees pester the queues by asking them if they wanting accessories and such. Not sure if it's true as I've not been to a midnight launch since Gears 2 however that's pretty sad if they do.
GameOn I go to midnight launches, and I think a better reward would be a poster or extra little download codes (themes and such). I am opposed to this idea as it is was purposely set up so that it would prey on those achievement hunters OCD behaviours. As I said, it may mean nothing to most people, but where to these people draw the f***ing line. This gen gaming has been run by cons and accountants, and there is no sense of innocence anymore. Hate to be a kid growing up today, as most of them are puzzled at online passes and all this pre-order incentive crap.
well I dont bother with midnight launches and I dont expect Game do particularly good ones but I personally like the idea of this type of achievement. It marks a gaming occasion you went to and I think it would be cool if they did them for other events like e3 and stuff like that. It's like a badge saying "I was there when" sorta thing.
(achievement unlocked) went outside Damn you exercise!!!
@BanBrother Isn't the reward the fact that you get to play your game earlier? Don't know why anyone would need an incentive to go to a midnight launch. @OT I've been to a few myself, but that was usually because I would be working the next day and couldn't make it later, or because I happen to be up. Never thought they needed to provide me with anything. The fact they were staying open past midnight was enough for me.
Am quite pleased cause it hope both Game & MS,this would be no different than an extra hour of game play Sony negotiated from Ubisoft for AC3. This would give Xbox gamers more incentive to want to get their game at GAME instead of any where else while helping a retail store stay afloat. I say bravo
GAME are getting desperate. Went in there before Christmas to buy a game or two to take away with me while I was at my mum's.. the cost of games there are crazy. Almost every second hand game I looked at was more expensive than brand new off Shopto/Amazon.. in some cases double the price. Good luck GAME, you're probably going out of business this year unless you offer some damn good deals on next gen consoles when they're released if you can make it that far.
Every GAME store in Western Australia has closed down.
So let me get this straight. Microsoft has now lowered themselves even lower by paying for exclusive achievements now? Did I read that correctly?
I'm pretty sure that it would be GAME that would be paying Microsoft for this deal as it's mostly to benefit them, but in essence, yes.
Wow, mark this one on your calendars ladies and gents. A new low in the gaming industry has been set, the last was when Capcom decided to charge for ondisc DLC but seems we now have a new contender. Bravo
