Wake Up Remedy! What Alan Wake 2 Needs to Succeed

OXCGN:

"Recently, the Alan Wake Facebook page had a tease saying that we’ll soon be seeing what Remedy has been up to all this time.

Considering that both titles ended with the ominous message “Alan Wake’s journey through the night will continue,” I think it’s safe to say that Alan Wake 2 is in development.

With that in mind, here is exactly what Alan Wake 2 needs to succeed."

I really think the timing for Alan Wake 2 is perfect if it's in 2013.

gaminoz4126d ago

It really needs a new hook though...more of the same may not cut it.

DeusExer4126d ago

I thought the atmosphere and narrative were top-notch, but fighting enemies got old by the end of the game.

AW2 needs to either add in a more diverse enemy range, or overhaul the combat focus.

Hooshuwashu4126d ago

I think this is the way to go. not sure about the flashlight... waiting for it to charge with no batteries built the intensity in the original, but american nightmare sort of made it smoother with the quick charging light

BadCircuit4126d ago

Maybe go to an actual burning torch....with time ticking down on it's use as it gets smaller and smaller...Or a smartphone light that dies out all of a sudden!

DeusExer4126d ago

If they wanted to keep the whole light combat mechanic, they could mix up the types of light.

Say some enemies can only be damaged by natural light, artificial, UV, or a combination of light and other objects.

Would keep it interesting.

@Deus Exer

As long as you aren't constantly needing to swap between light sources with a button, making it more annoying than cool

Belking4126d ago

Loved the first one. It had some incredible lighting.

The PORT of the game to PC made a profit in 48 hours. As for game sales, i don't know if the game itself made a profit from X360 and PC sales.

As for the game, Alan Wake is one of the best games this generation.

IronFistChinMi4126d ago

That's what a lot of people fail to take note of, the cost of porting it to the pc was considerably less than the cost of making the 360 version. Not to take anything for the fine work Remedy did of course.

Can't wait for a reveal of AW2, it looked like it was supposed to be revealed at the last E3, but it seems it was dependent on Microsoft revealing the 360's successor.

"Alan Wake is one of the best games this generation."

More like exhausting...

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia9d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie8d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie8d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh8d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

One Alan Wake 2 Detail Sticks Out Like a Sore Thumb

Alan Wake 2 is set in 2023, yet in Bright Falls and the Dark Place, there's a recurring element that feels somewhat anachronistic.

The thing that sticks out for me is no physical copy still

isarai30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

A haunted 4k OLED doesn't quite hit the same. Analog horror is a genre for a reason, they matry much better than digital and horror. Like which sounds better, a haunted VHS or a haunted PDF

toxic-inferno30d ago

You're spot on. Plus, having old technology is world-building. It immediately makes you question (even subconsciously) why an old television still exists there. It adds character and background in a subtle way. It is unsettling for the player, and attracts their attention in the best possible way because something about it isn't right.
