Wake Up Remedy! What Alan Wake 2 Needs to Succeed

OXCGN:

"Recently, the Alan Wake Facebook page had a tease saying that we’ll soon be seeing what Remedy has been up to all this time.

Considering that both titles ended with the ominous message “Alan Wake’s journey through the night will continue,” I think it’s safe to say that Alan Wake 2 is in development.

With that in mind, here is exactly what Alan Wake 2 needs to succeed." (Alan Wake, Alan Wake 2, Next-Gen, PC, Xbox 360)

I really think the timing for Alan Wake 2 is perfect if it's in 2013.
gaminoz  +   136d ago
It really needs a new hook though...more of the same may not cut it.
DeusExer  +   136d ago
I thought the atmosphere and narrative were top-notch, but fighting enemies got old by the end of the game.

AW2 needs to either add in a more diverse enemy range, or overhaul the combat focus.
Hooshuwashu  +   136d ago
I think this is the way to go. not sure about the flashlight... waiting for it to charge with no batteries built the intensity in the original, but american nightmare sort of made it smoother with the quick charging light

Maybe go to an actual burning torch....with time ticking down on it's use as it gets smaller and smaller...Or a smartphone light that dies out all of a sudden!
DeusExer  +   135d ago
If they wanted to keep the whole light combat mechanic, they could mix up the types of light.

Say some enemies can only be damaged by natural light, artificial, UV, or a combination of light and other objects.

Would keep it interesting.

@Deus Exer

As long as you aren't constantly needing to swap between light sources with a button, making it more annoying than cool

Loved the first one. It had some incredible lighting.

The PORT of the game to PC made a profit in 48 hours. As for game sales, i don't know if the game itself made a profit from X360 and PC sales.

As for the game, Alan Wake is one of the best games this generation.

That's what a lot of people fail to take note of, the cost of porting it to the pc was considerably less than the cost of making the 360 version. Not to take anything for the fine work Remedy did of course.

Can't wait for a reveal of AW2, it looked like it was supposed to be revealed at the last E3, but it seems it was dependent on Microsoft revealing the 360's successor.

"Alan Wake is one of the best games this generation."

More like exhausting...

I kind of hope that alan wake 2 is a release title for the next xbox as i felt alan wake did not get pushed enough my ms and i think the 2nd one will and they will be able to add more to the game to.
ATi_Elite  +   135d ago
Alan Wake 2 should be a High Graphical game release for Xbox 720 and PC.....with a regular version for Xbox360 owners!

I really want the SANDBOX gameplay we saw demoed by Intel way back in the day!

I Gamefly'd Alan Wake and enjoyed it although it got very repetitive. Shame it didn't sell, it deserved more sales.

Alan Wake 2 needs a better variety of combat/setting/enemies

Remedy, wake up!

More in-game ads inbound. Maybe this time he will have to stop by Wal-Mart to buy more energizer batteries for his flash light. Hope he trades in that Lincon cross over for a RAM power wagon!.
FarCryLover182  +   135d ago
I thought Energizer batteries were a great addition. Looked just like a pack of batteries that I'd buy at a store and I'd rather it be a real name of batteries than a fake name like "TurboCharged Battery."
Psychonaughty  +   135d ago
Exactly, in-game advertising is absolutely fine as long as it's contextualised and not over used. If anything it adds to the immersion and as we know, Alan Wake was all about the immersion.

It would have been even better if there had been "Leading Brand(TM)" batteries in the game that weren't as good as the energizers. :)
Pekolie  +   135d ago
I actually dont see a problem with that. I mean first off it connects you to the world a little bit more (Yeh batteries!!! XD) rather than having a ridiculously cheesy made up name.

And wouldn't you rather them make money in such a discreet way? Rather than charge YOU extra?
DeusExer  +   135d ago
I think for some people, when they see advertising or whatever for a real world product, it breaks the realism or connection with the game world, if you get what I mean.

People are reminded about real life, realising they are playing a game, reducing immersion.

But I understand where you are coming from.

For Playstation 3
There's a lot of potential in Alan Wake 2
MEsoJD  +   135d ago
I think they're better off making a new ip. They would have to correct so many things to make the game interesting/good. This sentiment from playing the original.
Enemy  +   135d ago
Make it the open world game it was supposed to be
Double the length
Make it HD
Less flashlight
More mission variety
More enemy variety
blahblah346  +   135d ago
the game wasn't too short...

A playstation Release!
Jek_Porkins  +   135d ago
I think some advertising, and not going up against a Rockstar release would help the sequel to succeed. Alan Wake was my favorite game from 2010, and American Nightmare was nice, but not the full on experience I wanted.

Hopefully Alan Wake 2 kicks off the next Xbox, because I feel like that could potentially be a killer app for the console. I think word of mouth and some of the accolades Alan Wake got, including Time Magazines GOTY, got people interested and while I don't see the franchise being in the 5 million range, it could easily do 2-4 and be considered a success.
