According to Tomb Raider writer, Rhianna Pratchett, Lara still comes from a wealthy background.
What is it with these guys making her parents missing, I feel like they're just doing that so in the future they can have another game with Lara setting off to find them like when she tried to find her mother in Underworld. I'd rather they just stuck to the orginal background, I don't see why they made a totaly differn't Lara croft. Everytime they say something like "Experience the origin of a legend" I can't help shaking my head because this Lara isn't the one we grew up with, this Lara won't become that legend because they are differn't. This is her old background story... "Lara Croft is said to have survived a plane crash in the Himalayas at the age of twenty one, and was later disowned by her parents, who are still living. However, in the comics, Lara lost both her parents and her fiancé in the crash" So I don't understand why they didn't base a game round after he plane crashes, it would still be a survival game and at the end of the game you would of witnessed the call she made for help when she finaly managed to find a small town after surviving for so long. Least then you could of actualy said experience the origin of a legend because then it would of been the real Laras background. I'm not saying it won't be a good game, they should of just did a game based on the planet crash. I mean if they used the comic version of the crash where her parents AND fiancé died that would of hardened her the most. Trying to deal with three of your loved ones death while trying to survive another traumatic experience of surviving a plane crash.
It is because they are aiming for Uncharted: Lara Croft rather than Tomb Raider
Quite sad really to try to copy off another game instead of sticking to your roots I mean people keep saying Uncharted copied Tomb Raider when in fact it copied films like Indiana Jones at the end of the day. The platforming is only similar because it's the only way to do realistic platforming in games, theres no other way to climb something, you can't have double jumps like in ND's past platforming games Crash and Jak so of course Drakes climbing skills are going to look like something out of Tomb Raider. However this game looks more like it's trying to become Uncharted instead of doing what made the first TR great. Theres no way they are going to snatch the platforming crown back off Uncharted by copying them, they've even tacked on multiplayer, if they wanted to do online they should of waited untill to see if the game did well first then for the sequel make an online..
But Drake can swim...
Honestly this whole game seems unbelievable if we are talking tomb raider cannon. Recently my cousin bought every tomb raider game of steam, and we kept mocking this new tomb raider because crystal dynamics is trying to sell us that Lara getting attacked by a wolf, and killing a pervert are life changing and puts her on the path to who she will become And suddenly lara can flip over tigers and kill the Egyptian god of death with two pistols.... from all of this? Its a reboot, not a prequel In essence they are trying to be uncharted, not tomb raider
Not so much survival porn involving being the lone survivor of a plane crash in snowy mountains as torture porn involving one among of group of survivors of ship wreck off the coast of an island populated by both wild animals and sadistic human killers, while there also happens to be treasure to be found. Cause that's the one thing you while being run down by crazed animals and killers: finding heavy and technically valueless crap that's going to slow you down! @admiralvic: And so can she right? I mean she's swam in every other game she's ever been in. Got to an island and by cutscene will be involved with watery environments. I've hardly followed the game but to have her unable to swim would just be insulting to the character. That was just a joke, right? Right?
I really hope you're joking, otherwise someone has been living under a rock... http://www.onlysp.com/2012/...
Damn double post...
Survival porn sounds interesting for some reason...
Why can't she swim??
@VileAndVicious Because level design is hard!
That was sarcastic in case that didn't come across...
I can't help but notice that you are giving allot of thought into something really minor. Who cares what they do to the story, until we play the game and see what they have done then we can bitch and say they shouldve done that or that ..
Wasn't the parent ( well father side ) of things touched in the later years which is in the first Lara Croft movie - Angelina and actual/and movie father John Voight who plays Lord Croft.. ..maybe on the next installment with Lara on another mission could somehow by chance occurrence stumble on her parents' whereabouts. Getting to have only a glimpse or actually meet and talk to them would be the question.
I love the idea of this reboot. Everything is new, so forget all we once knew. Take it as it is - an weak orphaned girl becoming a strong woman (coming of age) and it sounds great. I'm seriously fed up of hearing stupid ultrafeminist comments about her being made weak. In reality, many women (and men) are weak (a weak man becomes strong in Farcry 3), and feminist attempts to unrealistically portray all as strong are embarrassing to the wider equality movement.
Sounds like typical Rhianna Pratchett. As full of herself as her work is disappointing.
