Not Everyone Supports SGR in Star Wars: The old republic

It’s no surprise that not everyone likes same gender romance in SWTOR. It’s been battled before in other games and it has been opposed in SWTOR previously as well. But with the recent update from BioWare about their intentions to add it to the game, there was one forum user who became exceptionally vocal about it Reddit, after being banned from the SWTOR forums for 7 days for “hate speech”. (PC, Star Wars:The Old Republic)

Seriously, who cares? Let people have same sex romances. If it bothers you, then don't go around seducing guys in SWTOR. It's not like Bioware of shoving it down everybody's throat (lol).

It's utter stupid religious dogma that there is anything even wrong with same sex relationships, While I still crack the odd gay joke in the pursuit of cheap humour around friends, I find it utterly loony that anyone tries to make a rational argument against it in games in 2012/2013.

I mean honestly you would think that Bioware was forcing there avatar to become gay or lesbian which simply is not the case. It's completely optional if you don't want a gay avatar you won't have one.

There is nothing unnatural about being gay, most Ape primates undertake in same gender sex, humans themselves being Apes are simply no different.

Agreed. Choice is perhaps the most important element to modern RPG's, and gay players should be able to play as a gay character in those where it is suitable (ie. not uncharted where the story is fixed).

Calling homosexuality a disease when its NOT does not make the argument more valid. Oh! but he said they were "nice", so that must make him less of a bigot. Right.

Not wanting to be "infected" by "gayness" through a computer game (because that's totally possible) is not a rational opinion that deserves to be heard. Its idiocy.

I have a feeling this may be one of those articles people will rant about their personal views on. *slowly walks away*

I'm completely against having openly gay characters thrown in my face if they constantly remind you of their sexual orientation. I'm also opposed to being forced to play as a gay character or have gay romance thrown in my face (I can't watch Torchwood any more).
Having the option to be a gay character and being aware that characters are gay (Traynor in ME3 - that was very tastefully done) is a great thing though which increases freedom for the player, reflects modern society and is only fair for the percentage of the players who are gay.

The guy who wrote this hate comment is clearly either a religious zealot or an idiot, as his argument is totally unreasonable.
I'd like to keep seeing gay characters in games, as long as they don't make me feel uneasy (pda's if I'm not playing a gay character), I'm not forced to play them and they are tastefully done, trying and reflect the reality that most homosexuals don't act like the those on reality tv, but are instead normal people whose sexual identity you wouldn't be able to guess from ten minutes of knowing them (I have gay friends I've known for months without learning that they were so).

So the Jedi religion permits same sex couples?
hazelamy  +   600d ago
well, they never really permitted opposite sex couples in the prequel movies, though Luke doesn't seem to have retained that rule when he set up his new jedi order as he got married and had a kid.

and i doubt Luke would have had any problems with same sex couples.

there was a gay couple in one of the expanded universe books, neither of them was a jedi though as far as i know, one was a mandalorian, and i'm not sure about the other guy.

So it's ok to have inter-species romance and not ok to have gay characters?

I find it really nerving how much others want to rule, others!
I find the whole thing stupid, but to ban a user and for that to be considered hate speech is BS. Both sides should have the freedom to express their opinion as long as it doesn't incite violence!
aliengmr  +   600d ago
Totally fine as long the opinion is logical.

Not wanting gays to infect others through the internet is an opinion that has NO value.

And yes he should have been banned for being ignorant troll.
Saryk  +   600d ago
So in your words, no one should speak their opinion unless it is logical? Let me ask, who’s opinion is going to be considered logical? Please say the mass majority!
hazelamy  +   600d ago
did you skip the last paragraph?
because that's exactly what he did.

as for freedom of speech.
he's forgoing his right to free speech when he's telling others they don't deserve it solely because of his bigotry.

and that's what it is, bigotry, whether it's based on religious indoctrination or the fact he might be a degenerate scumbag, it's still bigotry.

would you still be defending him if he said being black was a disease, and that he wanted the option to kill any black characters in the game?

didn't think so.
Saryk  +   600d ago
I read it, several times, did you?
No where, did he say that homosexuals should be killed or any violent action against them. You really need to think about freedom of speech and hate speech.
He thinks that homosexuality is a sickness, when I was a kid that was exactly how it was described! He didn’t say kill them, he said he didn’t want it to be spread, opinion, stupid, but not a evil person, just uninformed.

*This Reddit thread spun off a post in the forums in which the same user named above posted “I hope there will be option to shoot/kill any companion or npc who will try to do SGR with my toon.” He was issued a 5-point infraction and a 7-day ban from the forums for his comments.*
