GLaDOS' Voice In The Pacific Rim Trailer Was A Valve Approved Cameo

"Just last month a trailer for the upcoming movie Pacific Rim was released for the public to witness. The two and a half minute video wasted little time to show its colossus alien monsters, but shortly after, gaming geeks noticed something which excited them greatly. That "something" in particular being the voice of Portal's very own GLaDOS going through a start-up sequence for one of the film's giant robots." (PC, Portal 2)

I was wondering if Valve approved the GLaDOS' voice to be in the movie and now I know. The giant mechs fighting monsters was enough for me, but adding GLaDOS voices was a cherry on top. This is definitely a movie I'm watching this year.

Agreed. My most anticipated movie of 2013. It just feels like a video-game movie done right, just without a game to adapt it from.

I wouldve watched it with or without GLaDOS

umm...what? it looks absolutely dreadful. Another Battleship-esque flop.

also, GlaDOS's voice feels out of place and is obviously just there because they know their target audience (15 year old boys) knows what Portal is.

Most anticipated? Have you seen the man of steel trailer?

"also, GlaDOS's voice feels out of place"

This times eight billion. It's obviously some retarded cameo for the equally retarded LEL I'M SUCH A NERD crowd. He should've just made the At The Mountain Of Madness instead of... whatever this is.

@ Gamer1982: Yeah, and? Do we judge movies based on their trailers now? It's still a Zack Snyder film and his last couple efforts haven't been very good. Actually, Sucker Punch is one of the worst films ever made, meanwhile Guillermo Del Toro continues to amaze. Pacific Rim, something new VS Man of Steel, another Superman movie. So hard to decide! I'll do the unspeakable and choose to see both!

@Enemy

'It's still a Zack Snyder film and his last couple efforts haven't been very good.'

Are you kidding me? Legend of the Guardians, Watchmen, 300 and Dawn of the Dead are all fantastic awesome films, Watchmen and 300 in particular.

'Sucker Punch is one of the worst films ever made'

I wasn't a fan of Sucker Punch but one of the worst films ever made? Seriously dude?

Really hopping this is as good as it looks, giant mechs fighting giant monsters has a very Eva-esque feel to it so you know Pacific Rim has the ingredients for something epic.

Fingers crossed :)

this movie only has 3 good things going for it!

1. the brilliant acting of Idris Elba (although wasted in this movie)
2. The Special Effects
3. The Voice of Glados

after that....I can't see me wasting money on this at the theater.

cocky heroes, monsters, fight scene, cocky heroes Love scene and arguments, more monsters, Cocky Heroes save the day...rinse repeat!

i don't think they could have done anything if they disapproved anyway.

but i really can't wait to see the movie.

Del Toro directing a giant mecha movie, total fangasm. ^_^

This was old news when it was announced on the Nerdist podcast a few months ago. Guillermo Del Toro did request permission from Valve to use the voice of GlaDOS in his film and it was announced then and approved by Gabe himself.

According to the article they're going to change the voice a bit from GLaDOS in the actual movie. It was kind of neat and funny in the trailer but I'm glad they're changing it. That would be pretty distracting. Also, if there's one cake joke I'm walking out.
