Ranking Best To Worst Grand Theft Auto Games

WC - Very few video games have existed for so long and had such mainstream success as the entire Grand Theft Auto series from Rockstar Games. It has consistently received critical acclaim and done what it has set out to do – be fun, addicting, and controversial.

Since the very first GTA game, parents and organizations have been up-in-arms about Rockstar’s releases. Grand Theft Auto games have been the focal point of criticism and lawsuits for years – and Rockstar loves it. If they didn’t, why would they continuously do it? (Culture, Grand Theft Auto)

I never played any of the top-down GTAs other than Chinatown wars. I do not agree with this guys list. Putting the original up first? So is the original Super Mario Bros. better than Super Mario Bros. 3? It's all about personal preference so I won't go any further to this. Personally my top 3 would be.

1. San Andreas
2. GTA4
3. Vice City
honorable mention: Vice City Stories

I find it odd that I enjoy Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, and Bully more than any of the GTA games.

GTA has always had potential, but it always felt limited, in my opinion. Sure, you could do a few fun things...but I wanted something more. I wanted something like Just Cause or Saints Row 3. I don't need the cheesy story, either. I just wanted fun gameplay that doesn't get old quickly. Even games like The Saboteur and Mercenaries (Both inspired by GTA) are more fun for me. They don't limit you quite as much as GTA does. That's why I love them.

I didn't really like RDR (very slow paced game) and LA Noire was horribly designed (repetitive gameplay) but I love bully (at the time I though it was a bit limited on what you can do)

I think GTA has matured though. Saints row is a great game but it is built to be ridiculous. GTA is built to have an engaging story grounded in realism which I am glad Rockstar went with this direction. What I would like to see from GTA is the stupid cheats. They can have the cleaver story and well acted moments but they I feel they need to do the stupid cheats again. Make the cheats change the tone of the game so you can have fun outside the story.
