'Hawken' Is Why I Hope Free-To-Play Isn't The Future Of Video Games

Forbes - Hawken is a multiplayer mech combat game that would be a great buy. But it’s free to play, and that comes at a price. (Hawken, PC)

Free to play is the future and the future is NOW!

Hawken's F2P business model "Freemium" is not good right now but upon it's official release I'm sure the publisher Meteor Entertainment will change the business model to better follow the models of most F2P games where the game is wide open and money pays for mostly cosmetic stuff!

Or like the not so fun Battlefieldplay4free you can earn game cash by doing surveys or watching commercials. This format has helped EA make a few million monthly and allows gamers to buy stuff without spending their own real cash!

Hawken is currently in Open Beta and it's awesome!

Firefall, Hawken, Planetside 2, Tribes:Ascend, Blacklight:Retribution, Warface, Need 4 Speed World are some pretty AWESOME F2P games!
