I Wish Nintendo Would Buy THQ...

While the smart money says that Ubisoft will be the one who comes out with THQ in the end — which probably isn’t a bad thing — my inner fanboy is rooting for another company to win this prizefight. While If the best home for THQ’s vagabond games is the company where they’ll do the most “good,” then I think there’s a publisher that would be a better fit... (Industry, Nintendo, THQ, Ubisoft, Wii U)

Oh god no
dedicatedtogamers  +   553d ago
You want Dawn of War III? Too bad. Here's a Pikmin spin-off built with THQ's strategy engine.

Another Metro? Sorry, THQ is stuck making Metroid: Other Metro.

Company of Heroes? More like Amusement Park of Heroes featuring chibi versions of beloved Nintendo characters...oh wait, that would be the sequel to NintendoLand.

Why not?

It only means more games, but with Nintendo leading it. It just means GREAT GAMES.
maniacmayhem  +   552d ago
@Dedicated

Really, Nintendo does this? When have they done this to any game they took control of?

The Wii had its fair share of hardcore, adult games and the WiiU is trying desperatly to recapture it's hardcore audience.

Unless you were trying to be funny.
Zhipp  +   552d ago
Let's be realistic. Nintendo wouldn't buy an entire production company just to churn out more spinoffs of their own franchises. If Ninty were to buy THQ(I seriously doubt they will) they'd most likely end up making pretty much the same kinds of games that THQ is known for today, only exclusive to Nintendo's platforms.
Zhipp  +   552d ago
Aww! Double-post! I never thought it would happen to me!

Thumbs up for the Dawn of War reference.

Dawn of war 1 and Dark crusade are my favorite PC games ever......

They better not take away base building in DoW 3.....
CaptainN  +   552d ago
Funny I think it was Nintendo that helped push Conkers Bad Fur Day and it actually became a Mature title underneath Nintendo's umbrella....as before it was a kiddy game! Also was it not the same company that pushed Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.....and also published Killer Instinct???

Was it not this same Nintendo that helped push Eternal Darkness and Geist????

Is this not the same Nintendo that is helping publish Bayonetta 2 right now???

Your logic is baffling to say the least.

Saying "I wish [big 3 company] would buy [big publisher]" is tantamount to saying "I wish [big three company] was closer to being a monopoly"
PopRocks359  +   552d ago
Frankly I wish ANY company would buy out THQ. They have some talented people there who don't deserve to lose their jobs.

Satisfied?

@SilentNegotiator [below]

I was merely responding to your criticism of the statement. Frankly I don't think it's so bad to wish a company would buyout another company in serious need of financial assistance.

I wasn't targeting any of your comments specifically (unless you're the author?) so I don't know where this "Satisfied?" crap is coming from....

THQ just needs to trim the fat, gravely.
pikey  +   552d ago
theres no fat to be trimmed. they filed for bankruptcy and the company no longer appears on the stock market. Meaning unless its bought up, its will be gone forever.

What Panda said...

Sorry to the Nintendo fans and fanboys. I do NOT want to even think about Sony owning THQ and probably restricting Saints Row titles and Darksiders to be exclusive to them.

Games that THQ make are great games that completely deserve to be as multiplatform as possible.

Because that would mean every new THQ game would be on a Nintendo platform.

I love THQ games, but not enough to buy a Wii U.

games4thought  +   553d ago
Well that's kind of the point. I don't think Nintendo is giving consumers enough reasons to buy a Wii U. The last generation of console was defined, in part, by the decline of the console exclusive. Making every game platform agnostic forces all consoles to work the same way, which kind of defeats the purpose of having different consoles.

Neonridr  +   553d ago
Interesting thought, but it will never happen unfortunately. I would much sooner believe Nintendo would purchase SEGA.
shackdaddy  +   553d ago
Nah. I don't want their games to become exclusives. That would be really annoying for me.

THQ needs to be bought by a 3rd party company that's not Ea or Activision. Pipe dream would be that Valve buys but I'm almost 100% certain they won't...
YoungPlex  +   553d ago
It's not a bad idea simply because DarkSiders I & II are are inspired by Zelda, and with Nintendo's polishing and artistic drive for perfection, this game could turn out to be a mature master piece...
ALLWRONG  +   553d ago
I want THQ to stay the way they are. Keep THQ a multiplatform publisher.

Enemy  +   552d ago
So Nintendo buys them, THQ goes on to lose ALL their sales, Nintendo realizes no one is buying their games anymore because THQ is known for hardcore games, and then R.I.P again for THQ?

Or will Nintendo force THQ developers to develop more casual games/begin the milking of Metroid, Pikmin, Zelda, etc?

Either way, lose lose.
pikey  +   552d ago
your apparant belief that you have the ability to predict the future aside, your opinion is reactionary and juvenile. if THQ relies on hardcore sales to drive thier bottom line and thier bottom line dropped out to the point of bankrupty what does that tell you? either there arent enough hardcore players out there to support a company that makes exlusively hardcore games or or or people see that other people who define themselves as "hardcore gamers" act so dickishly that they dont buy those types of games to avoid the association.

IF they bought it hopefully yhey would retain the workers along with the ip's and foster there growth while at the same time giving advice a to how produce some games that have broader appeals outside of those absolute mostly fuckfaces with thier superior attitudes that consider themselves "hardcore" to turn some good profit on top of it so that they could make games for everyone rather than die trying to cater to a small crop of entitled pricks.

in my experience, anyone who label themselves hardcore gamers are just exclusionary jackasses with chips on thier shoulders looking for some sort of reason to elevate themselves above others who also game but have a broader range of likes within the games available.

Wow some great truths and it's not even my birthday! Well said
ShaunCameron  +   550d ago
That's funny because Rare made more "casual" games with Microsoft than they ever did with Nintendo, not to mention Microsoft forced them to censor the Conker remake. And Silicon Knights' most heralded game was a Nintendo (GameCube) exclusive.

Are you sure they will force THQ developers to make more "casual" games? Or this is yet another typical kneejerk response from Sony/Microsoft fanboys.
kirbyu  +   552d ago
I hope this happens. So the Spongebob/Mario crossover, and Spongebob being in SSB4 will both be legit.
InTheLab  +   552d ago
THQ going to Nintendo would be like Rare going to MS. Not a good look.
r21  +   552d ago
Ugh, i hate when a multiplatform games becomes exclusives. Again, I'd rather have Ubisoft or Valve buy em then everybody gets to enjoy the games on whatever console they have.
FarCryLover182  +   552d ago
I wish a non-gaming company would buy THQ. Competition is good and a key thing.
Drainage  +   552d ago
LOL could you imagine? Oh shit you were serious?
DEATHxTHExKIDx  +   552d ago
God No. They will take Darksiders 3 and turn it exclusive for wiiU.
DwightOwen  +   552d ago
At least then there would actually BE a Darksiders III.
FarCryLover182  +   552d ago
Well, if Nintendo did buy them out, it obviously would be Wii-U exclusive. Not like they'd release on all platforms.
Yodagamer  +   552d ago
I don't see what's wrong with the idea, it has decent ip's. Nintendo has been looking to fund some exclusives, if it is what needed to keep thq ips alive and well, i'm all for it.
SaffronCurse  +   552d ago
360,Ps3 and Pc fans rejoice! This would be catastrophic.
jefejose  +   552d ago
I just prefer Ubisoft, there will be still Multi-Platform games and its less corrupted than EA and Activision
hazardman  +   552d ago
I would like to see MS buy THQ, as long as they dont have to make KINECT only games. I tell you what tho if Nintendo does buy them.. please bring back NO MERCY. best wrestling game ever!
RFornillos4  +   552d ago
i wouldn't mind if Nintendo does. however, I highly doubt it. they could however buy out one or two of THQ's IP.

the problem really if any of the big 3 (Sony, MS, and Nintendo) buy out THQ is that it would mean that their IPs will most likely end up as exclusives for the platform, which in this current situation would not really help the gaming industry. so yeah, i'd prefer if some other 3rd party buy out THQ (which atm looks more likely to be Ubisoft), and churn out multiplats for THQs IPs.
tigertron  +   552d ago
No, I actually want to see another Saint's Row.
wiiulee  +   552d ago
nintendo should indeed buy thq and they will be under nintendo's seal of quality so the games would be improve and good ....and nintendo need as many game developers on its side as possible to keep the games coming...so the more developers nintendo can buy the better for us wiiu owners and gamers in general
ZeekQuattro  +   552d ago
If anything Microsoft would buy it and slowly kill it like they did Rare. Conker, Banjo, and Perfect Dark were commercial flops on the 360. Kameo was also a joke. Rare is a shell of its former self.

Back on topic the only THQ game I like now is the Saints Row series. I'd like to see that series continue. But Nintendo should not be their savior.

I just said this yesterday, before I even saw this article lol. I'm a fan of THQ & I don't want to see them go, and people there lose there jobs. I looked at THQ's twitter yesterday and thought Nintendo should buy them, and if not them then somebody should.

Why is everyone making such a big deal out of this? What games does THQ even make?
NYC_Gamer  +   552d ago
Nope,a 3rd party publisher needs to buy THQ.
ShaunCameron  +   550d ago
SpongeBob (despite being a licensed IP) and de Blob would be good fits for the Nintendo platform.
