While this is certainly true, a lot of elements are definitely untrue too. Plenty of people went into Biohazard 6 hating the game... several people noticed it yet again wasn't survival horror (go figure...), many were turned off by some of the design choices and others weren't a fan of the story. The only people who thought it was going to be good, were the people that liked the new direction of Biohazard 6 or went in expecting Operation Raccoon City.
The simple fact is that hype is a HUGE double edge sword, which this article fails to touch on. Yes hype can cause us to like it a little more, but if it fails to meet expectations... that can also cause harsher reviews / scores. It works in every direction and constantly flows both ways, so the product has to ultimately meet expectations regardless.
