Soon after deciding to pass on next-gen consoles in favor of a gaming PC, Gamers Association editor Luke Frazier was quickly confronted by Sony and Microsoft as they attempted to change his mind. The following is a transcription of that discussion.
[Or maybe it's a silly article explaining his reasoning for choosing a PC. Either one.]
I dunno what to think of when re-reading this article as I always say consoles and PC Gaming are two different worlds.
People play consoles cause they enjoy the console experience and it's games.
I play on the PC cause I enjoy PC Games and a custom fit gaming experience like having Peripheral View in FPS and Racing games!
play on what you want and what's within your budget!
Happy Gaming!
However, I just enjoy the turn on and play on the big screen experience. Sure I can do it on the big screen, but even turning my PC on to play a movie seems like a hassle.
my pc cold boots in 10-15 seconds and warm wakes in 1.
and i mean really awake. like already browsed to n4g cause i could start clicking immediately and ie opened instantly and n4g loaded instantly.
if you want proof i will put up a video just for you.
woops i underestimated
so its 15 seconds to boot and im on n4g.com by 32 seconds. cause i have to login and n4g is not my homepage.
just timed it with my cellphone. :)
thats the honest truth.
if you had a raid 0 setup with ssd you could probably cut that in half. :)
I do use SSD, and even with Vista the computers feel snappy. However, once you pop in Windows 8, the difference starts to feel negligable.
The turning on the PC part is a hassle is more to do with interface (and a sprinkle of boot time, etc). Using a mouse/keyboard to navigate the computer and so on. I tried to buy different types of keyboard/mouse combos to mitigate that, but still, not as nice as starting the Xbox 360 with the remote controller and then sprinkle in a little Kinect Voice recognition every now and then.
Steam big picture mode though definitely helps and I hope Valve makes a PC box. I might just buy that if it runs Window 8. I want the faster and snappier OS while also still able to play blizzard games!
I'm not being rude but the moment you said " even turning my PC on to play a movie seems like a hassle" lets me know your either Technologically Challenged or your PC is Lame!
I can Skype, download/upload, encode video, browse the internet, watch a movie, and play a game all at the same time!
Sure I'm an advance PC user with a kick butt PC but I still can't understand someone having a hard time turning on a PC and double clicking a movie to play.....easier than wiping off a dvd and getting it to play!
if you PREFER Consoles then just say it but don't make up crap to in an attempt to make PC Gaming seem difficult when it really isn't!
that's like me saying "OMG i hate walking into the Living room and spending 5 minutes looking for the remote before i can turn on the tv and set it to Aux input to play my console"!
Did you even read what I wrote?
The PC shortcomings I mentioned has almost nothing to do with the hardware and almost everything to do with the software.
"if you PREFER Consoles then just say it but don't make up crap to in an attempt to make PC Gaming seem difficult when it really isn't!"
It is more of an inconvenience that I rather not have when there is an easier option, even if it cost more sometimes.
That's how I see it anyway.
And I like it that way :)
PCs are for home theaters.
That's how i see it anyway.
Heres a long ass video about a pc i built for my kids.
its all torn up at the moment but it fits in a case the size of a 360.
its not the fastest computer and not my personal pc but just goes to show that a pc fits perfectly in a livingroom environment.
the video is more about automation with the 360 controller and the fact that there are like 2000 games on the thing at the ready. you dont even have to use a mouse if you dont require a login.

Unfortunately I couldn't play in the living room for long. That's what a family TV for : it's for the whole family. I can't utilize the 5.1 speakers since there's a newborn baby around. My mother and sister have their own shows to watch in the afternoon while at night my brother and father have the news and sports channel. Sometimes some games are too uncomfortable to share to the whole family. And I don't think the family would enjoy watching me pondering for long stretches of time which region or battalion would receive state funding as I slowly conquer Japan in Total War Shogun 2.
Might as well buy another HDTV and put in a place where you can game without disturbing others and vice versa. If they want to watch, they are welcomed to come in.
A place like a bedroom or a gameroom.

I can miss gears & pikmen.
In my case:
Connect to two External Monitors for work.
Lcd tv for when I wanna watch things big or play on my couch with a controller
Turning it into a home theater by just moving my Alien lappy into the living room. Dont have a BOSE (would kill for it lol) but a decent setup nevertheless.
Most times its on my desk when Im working or playing Diablo or some strategies, mmos etc.
My Alien lappy is more powerful and way more portable than a home console for sure :D and can make it adapt to what I want to do with it and where.
Now for a console:
Well a living room/bedroom situation is all I see with this. Basically couch/bed and play.
Like I said earlier PC's are for ppl who want more and console are for those who just want to game.
