Behind The Scenes Of Ni No Kuni's Art Style

This latest development diary for Ni No Kuni focuses on the game's art style, pioneered by world renowned Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli. As you might expect, literally every single thing about Ghibli's creative process is completely adorable, even the old dudes. Especially the old dudes. (Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, PS3)

On a side note: Worst demo ever.

RPG demos...

I agree. To be asked to judge an 80 hour RPG with one boss fight is unrealistic. The one thing that the demo DID accomplish though, is to show me how beautiful the world was and how DQ8 it felt (not a bad thing at all!)

I'm experienced with RPGs and recognise that playing them is an investment as much as a pleasure. I'm sure when people grow into the game from the opening sequence, they'll fall in love with JRPGs all over again and remember what they have over Western RPGs: CHARM.

A demo is to get you a taste of the gameplay which it did very well. They have you one boss with a small tutorial to get the ball rolling, then they put you in an open world for a good 30 minutes to do as many battles as you wanted. Then there was the second boss which was farther into the game so you could have more options in battle and see the full potential of the gameplay. A demo is to show off the gameplay to give you a better idea if you wanted to buy the game if you were unsure of how it played. It's NOT suppose to let you play have the game and let you learn every secret and detail, that is why your suppose to play the actual game. The second part of your first paragraph is what the demo is suppose to accomplish. I also very much agree with your second statement too. I've always favored Jrpgs over western ones because of the charm and the arguably better quality they give in terms of gameplay, side quests, secrets, and story. Of course there are a lot of good western RPGs but they are rare to come out.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Because I've loved JRPGs over the years, the demo did it for me, even though it only gave you a taster. For the uninitiated though, the demo may well have made them wary. This game is on my 'day one' list and the demo only affirmed that.

For anyone who thinks the demo is a fair representation of the 'whole' genre, then please ignore your sojourn and flash the cash for Level 5 this January!

Fair enough.
I gave it 5 minutes and I knew I was going to buy this day one! I saw enough and didn't want to spoil anymore.

Less than a month to go! I just hope Namco's shipping to Canada isn't too slow or I might be waiting a few extra weeks. Would have liked to pick it up launch day but there was no way I could pass up that Wizard's edition.

Seriously brother, if I was in your shoes I would keep that WE nicely wrapped up on a shelf and just go out and grap a regular edition and pop that.

Haha that's fair but I don't buy collectors editions to actually collect them. That Drippy plush is going on my shelf and I definitely plan on checking out every page of the massive book.

Day 1 for me.
Level 5 does know how to make great RPGs and Studio Ghiblis Art is unique.
The two of them is just WIN !!!
