4 Ways The New Tomb Raider Multiplayer Could Be Great

Daav from Gamesta.com stops to think about what would make a multiplayer an awesome addition to the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, rather than a cause for alarm. Even if you don't feel like Lara Croft should expand her horizon after so many years, why not think about ways where she could enhance the story online, since its an inevitability now anyway. (PC, PS3, Tomb Raider, Xbox 360)

I just don't see how this is going to work

People keep bringing up Uncharted 2 and how it "worked" with it's added online but Uncharted fit online in the first place with how much of an action/adventure game it was. However with Tomb Raider being more about survival, I just can't imagine seeing Lara and co in a massive death match with Ak's and grenades.

Uncharted multiplayer succeed because of its verticality which made it different from every other TPS on the market and still has a small but strong community.

Either they try to make a hybrid between AC stealth MP and any TPS multiplayer or it just will seem out of place since it's supposed to be a survival/action-adventure game, not a war/crime game.

except the shooting system in uncharted was terrible so it made for a bad MP shooter.

Nobody is buying this game for the multiplayer. This feature will be as useless as Assassin Creed and Mass Effect 3's multiplayer no doubt. This is nothing more than an attempt by the dev or publisher to insert perceived value into a game that is doomed for the rental and after market.

I'll be playing this game. Tomb Raider, for me, has been a long series of great memories. This will be different, but I have not doubt the developers have put forth a ton of work into this game.
I'm excited. Not for multiplayer, I really don't care about that, but the single player is the spot.

So every game must have MP. Even with old franchises that were known for the SP experience. I guess there's no getting away from it.

Remember you don't have to play it, I'm going to play through the story enjoy it then see how the multiplayer is.

I agree that I don't have to play the MP. It just makes me wonder if they could put more content in the SP game if they didn't add MP.We will see soon enough.

Yeah I get what you're saying hopefully nothing amazing was cut in the single player just to add multiplayer. Eidos Montreal is working on the multiplayer so it's good that they had another studio to work on it.

That's the attitude I'm employing. As long as they're not sacrificing the singleplayer, there can be multiplayer for all I care. The article is also not enforcing that there would be MP shoved in, merely that the inevitability would call for a way to bring that to a satisfactory end. If it's decent, then it's a nice bonus. That's how I felt about games like Space Marine and recently Far Cry 3; didn't need it, good enough nonetheless.

I would only play MP if one person was Laura and the rest were animals trying to kill her before she got to the end of the level.
