Do You Like Hurting Other People?

Indie Statik writes: "That’s a pretty f**ked up question to pose to anybody. Unless they’ve killed and/or tortured people before, then it’s actually quite a sensible one with clear intentions of delving into the psychology of the subject – maybe this is why they’ve done what they have. For the record, my response is no; I do not like hurting other people at all. But when a game asked me this once, my honest answer was the opposite." (Culture, Hotline Miami)

I like games like Castelvania Lords of Shadow and God of War for their brutality but it's in a style that is still historical and artistic.

For RPGs, like Fallout, Skyrim or Mass, I really try to be a good guy. Not that I like being good or bad any different but usually you miss out more being bad as you end up losing quests in your rage and kill fests.

I don't know but I tend to gravitate more towards good, unless there is a gameplay implication...Such as Dishonored. In Dishonored I just went all out killing everyone. It was so much more fun than the other way

I was punished in the ending for it but whatever.

There's even a song about killing all the NPCs and missing out in RPGs.

If anyone thinks that hurting people in games is the same as actually hurting people in real life, then they need to have their head examined.

We all do it in games, I mean who hasnt run over someone in GTA just for the heck of it? Does it mean were crazy? Off course not.

But yes off course the key word is GAME in real life it wouldnt even cross my mind, heck I almost crashed on a roundabout because I was trying to avoid running over a cat and thank god neither did I crash or run over the cat :D

Do you like being the captain of a WW2 submarine? Do you like being a helicopter pilot in the future?

If it happened in a video game, or board game, or rpg, then it didn't really happen.

Your 14th level chaotic neutral barbarian was a hobby activity, a focus for pretense. It is not something you can put on your CV/Resume. You were never the scourge of the western ice plains. Sorry.

Trying to extrapolate fantasy to real life is stupid. I think everyone involved with the article knows this but the devs and game critics want to pretend that they are research psychologists or something instead of game developers or writers. It's silly and pretentious. Killing Julius and taking over Stillwater with the Saints AGAIN doesn't make you a gang banger. Finishing Halo 3 on legendary doesn't make you a cyborg super soldier.

You mean hurting ppl while I sit back on my comfy couch drinking tea watching them scream with agony as a drop of acid drips every 10 seconds on his/her forehead?

or

Watching someone swallow his own tongue because he's so dam hungry while tripping on acid and confused as fuck.

Fortunately I don't enjoy any of the above :D

I love hurting in game characters. But in reality no.

Same, I'm an evil bastard in games but wouldn't hurt a fly IRL, that's one of the great things about gaming.

Amen to that!
