Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Review | Square-Go

Square-Go writes:

"It’s safe to say, right off the bat, Playstation All-Stars’s line-up lacks the lustre of Nintendo’s own. Where Smash Bros gave us Mario battering Link and Samus, here we have Fat Princess going toe-to-toe with Sweet Tooth. Cole MacGrath laying into Colonel Radec. You can’t blame Sony for lacking the rich seam of character history that Nintendo are able to tap, but for what’s billed as a celebration of all things Playstation the 22-strong character roster feels a little incomplete. Favourites like Kratos, PaRappa, and Sackboy are squeezed in alongside a handful of third-party offerings, like Heihachi Mishima from Tekken and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid. But names like Lara Croft, Crash Bandicoot, and the like would have helped to flesh out a fairly limp selection. We can only imagine they’re saving the best for paid DLC in the near future." (PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, PS Vita, PS3) 3/5

I'm sorry but Nintendo pretty much only has Zelda, Mario, Metroid & Pokemon franchises to choose from so it's pretty darn easy for them to get all the favourites, particularly because they own them all. On the other hand Sony only have one character from a huge selection of different franchises so I'd personally say there is far more variety.

That said I'd agree that the roster could be better with Snake, Crash, Spyro, Lara etc.

What about F-Zero, Kirby series, Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong, Mother, Kid Icarus, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Punch Out, Wario, and Xenoblade Chronicles since Monolith sith is a first party dev.

Do those franchises count?

It’s safe to say, right off the bat, SSBB'S line-up lacks the lustre of Sony's own. Where Smash Bros gave us Princess Peach battering Olimar and Captain Falcon, here we have Kratos going toe-to-toe with Nathan Drake. Jak and Daxter laying into Ratchet & Clank. You can’t blame Nintendo for lacking the rich seam of character history that Sony are able to tap ...

The roster complaints are such massive fail, I can't believe people are still using that.

Not everybody. Most are just saying that the game sucks. It happens.

PSASBR>SSB.

I'd grown up playing (each one, 1 2 and 3) smash bros daily. I'd always thought it was the best game ever, and that nothing could beat it. It WAS my life. I literally lived off of it.

Then I played the PSASBR beta... the BETA.

And I declared the BETA better than any smash game IN MY OPINION.... (Note, 'In my opinion')

yet another bias review from a bias site
if only we gamers have a constitution for gaming. we have way too many politics in gaming that its hard to believe if reviews are genuine belief or is it marketing strategy?

with that said i honestly disagree with anyone who believe this game is worth 3/5 or above.
DigitalRaptor  +   146d ago
Did you support that with any reasoning as to why it doesn't deserve 3/5 or above? or is the game not a solid platform brawler/fighter with solid mechanics, deep strategy, a good roster of incredibly well-balanced characters, fully-functional cross-platform online multiplayer, and is it not heaps of fun?

Looking at your history of hate on this game it seems like one of your main issues is that it consists of PlayStation characters. That in itself is utterly stupid since Superbot and thus the game wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Sony's decision to do a long-requested mascot brawler.

The thing is I don't believe you have played more than the beta if you come to the conclusion that it is not worth at least 7/10. A good solid fun game with its own style and depth.

this game borrows elements from other fighters. also the game to most may seem solid but in actuality this game cannot hold a candle light beside any other fighters.

honestly this game have no unlockability so everybody is playable from the start, which to most gamers this simple tool is needed.

so let me ask you this since you believe this game is worth more 3/5 and up!

what makes this game solid when the arcade mode is pretty much empty.

if this game was not suppose to play like ssb, do you agree with the decision on the fighting style?

when playing psasbr do you feel like this game didn't have to look like ssb.

Thanks for all the funny comments above. I did not realize people could be so fanboyish. The truth is always stronger than opinions, and Nintendo is the truth.
