Via TheGameReviews.com "In TheGameReviews.com's first interview with the Dark Sector development team, they got a chance to ask about any differences between the PS3 and 360 versions. The answer: it will look the same on PS3 and the Xbox 360."
example: what I call the "call of duty 4 logic" evem thought both versions look the same and play the same fanboys will find something in one version that doesnt look the same as on the other (not better, not worse, just a diffrent shadow, slighy more/less motion blur or something, and then try and clam there version is better a fanboys eye will see inperfections that are not even there
I agree completely... most games are no different from one to the other... Also this game looks really impressive... I can't wait to get my hands on it...
Well, you can't please everyone and in all honesty it's not worth even trying. I think most gamers would be satisfied with the fact that the game looks great, plays great, and is all around fun. What more do you need out of a game?
The Xbox 360 is most always a little better at a minimum, but that's always a safe comment for a dev to say so he doesn't take any pre-emptive flak.
denial much? several multi-plat games have looked better on PS3 including COD4, DiRT, BO:P, Oblivion (although that was due to extra dev time) and several others most games that do look better on the 360 just have an extra bush or table or something- its nothing significant (apart from Orange Box)
well... the developers got a better understanding of the PS3 hardware and they are getting used to it, that means better ports, and with the new dev tools given buy sony, who knows? btw, I loved this quote : Josh stressed that the development team “did not dummy down any textures” or “reduce the amount of effects on screen, stuff like that.” Austin said that the development team could have packed more content onto the PS3, but D3 wasn’t focusing on one console entirely for Dark Sector
could of fooled me..from these comparison shots it seems like the xbox looks more textured and not as washed out as the ps3 version...sorry heyheyhey but you fail...take of those sony glasses and look at reality... http://www.gamespot.com/fea... its that same washed out sheitty look that burnout paradise has..thanks ps3.
I haven't played oblivion for ps3 yet, but the comparison pictures told me that the PS3 version got more bump map on the textures, got more light, the textures are more defined. and ouch! you shot yourself at the foot if you read the comments on the article: "We actually preferred how the 360's low-res ground outside the stables looked compared to the PS3's sharper yet bland-looking ground, but it could just be an artwork issue since the PS3 has better looking stonework in our city shot where both systems share similar base textures."
@Snuka Hmm...Could have fooled me. From the same source: "Bethesda delayed Oblivion for the PS3 from Q4 2006 to March 2007, but it looks like the developers made good use of that extra time to improve graphics for the PS3." The PS3's textures have more detail and stay sharp farther into the distance. We actually preferred how the 360's low-res ground outside the stables looked compared to the PS3's sharper yet bland-looking ground, but it could just be an artwork issue since the PS3 has better looking stonework" Character models definitely look better on the PS3. The armor on the standing guard shows more intricate detailing on the PS3." As the person above me said, "ouch"
runs 720p on ps3, less on xbox however although the ps3 version ran better and looked better at launch due to extra dev time, there was a patch released on the 360 that brought the visuals closer to ps3 level and improved everything else, loading times, streaming rather than pop in
tell me they are not washed out or with less textures though..with a year later..you would expect more out of it no? "Bethesda delayed Oblivion for the PS3 from Q4 2006 to March 2007, but it looks like the developers made good use of that extra time to improve graphics for the PS3." do those look like improved graphics though>? ouch my azz...if you played the xbox version and went too play the ps3 version its a downgrade visually.
i think you just got pwned el serioso snuka- you provided a source which went against your claims- which make YOU the failure and my glasses say Ray-Ban b!tch not Sony
Pictures spoke for themselves....the only people who think they look better are people who are used too that washed out look heyheyhey....I thought women only wore ray ban sunglasses anyways...guess you smashed that myth huh...
Pull up your pants and stand up straight. Tell your boyfriend to leave because like Sony he's giving it to you up the ass.
it must have been hard to share such emotional past experiences with the internet- well done
Hey Hey Hey your a dumbass. My comment can obviously be applied to you as well since you seem so comfortable replying to that considering I wasn't talking to your worthless ass.
I've been looking forward to this game since last summer. The time is almost here. Bring it Heyden Teno!
they always say that..
and its always true
I am still really on the fence about this game. I was really disappointed when they changed the entire look and direction of the game from the original trailer they showed on the space ship w/ his morphing suit... Hopefully this game will be good...but so far it kinda has a "Darkness" feel to me. And what I mean by that is not bad, but not great either.
the way I feel. Tsk, tsk... I hate mind readers, fortunetellers and the like, but in your particular case- I'll have to make an exception. Bubbles me dear.
The multiplatforms all look the same now... Except Madden 08, Burnout, Oblivion and maybe a couple of other . Orange Box. PS3 hasnt had a bad looking game in a long time. Even Orange was blown WAYYYYYYYYYYYY oout of proprtion... it runs literally 98% perfect lol. As a Sony CEO stated just yesterday... developers now KNOW the momentum behind the PS3 and how new it really still is. PS3 is becoming the LEAD SKU for almost ALL future projects including even Epic and midway multiplatforms. Get owned BOTS. Its happening. Stright from a Sony CEO. At least both version will be awesome.
The only reason devs. are using ps3 as a lead platform is b/c they've found that's the O N L Y way they can get a decent version for the ps3. Everyone knows that. That's nothing to do with any wave or anything of the sort, however that did give me a good laugh, thanks.
Maybe it will run 60 fps on the PS3. HAHA.
Open zone -->
They need to stop making both system the same. If one system can handle more put more stuff into those. That's what I hate about Multi platform game. They make everything the same. Why can't it be like the xbox vs PS2 where since xbox was stronger they also made it look better.
umm.. i'm a 360 owner and i agree with you. I thought from day one with ps3 we would see big differences since they hyped up the Cell so much. maybe in due time, it will be easier, less costly and much more developer friendly to cross over multi-plat games to the ps3.....then maybe they can bump up textures and resolution. But it seems to me PS3 needs more memory (just like the 360) to really take advantage of its advanced CPU
then they'll have angery fanboys pissing and moaning at them.
when you are on the inside, and own one of these studios you will figure it out. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
@etownone just so you know the 2 memory pools on the PS3 are both accessible by the GPU and the CPU with little restriction (there are some). They can be thought of as the same in most cases but one can be used up to 5x faster then the other so it can be used for other tasks when not used in pool mode. http://www.ps3blog.net/2007... "8. The PS3 has 256MB of fast video RAM and 256MB of normal RAM. But I’ve heard that all memory can be used either by the Cell or the GPU anyway. Is this split an issue? Does it hinder or help? Would a unified memory architecture have been better? Do you have any clarifying comments about that? Al Hastings, Chief Technology Officer: In practice, the split memory architecture hasn’t caused us many problems. The GPU can access main RAM at high speed and with very few restrictions. And while there are some restrictions when you want the CPU or SPUs to access video RAM at high speed, so far they’ve been easy enough to work with. For the PS3, I think the split memory architecture was the right way to go. It allows the Cell and the GPU to both do heavy work on their local buses without contending with each other. It should really pay dividends a few years down the road in the PS3’s lifecycle when everyone’s code has gotten more efficient and bus bandwidth emerges as a one of the most important resources."
Your nice little cut and paste tech dribble was just that. Dribble. You can spew all the jargon you want to justify your $600 (or whatever you paid) for the ps3. This is about games not the justification or cost of the power behind it. If devs have figured out that both are closer than they are different then it should only mean one thing. Great games for all!
@darthv72 Not justifying anything - just correcting mistaken information quoted as fact for a long time. That the memory pools are hard to work with(true to a point)and can only be used specifically by one component (this part is absolutely untrue.) I tend to agree great games for all! I am glad that Sony was able to help D3 out and make their experience with the PS3 better. I am sad that D3 didn't use the extra that the PS3 gave them though T_T
Why the joy spreading about? For don't you people realize that identical looking games are adverse to flame-like weather, weather which- according to me- is the exact manifestation of heaven on Earth. Seriously, I hate when games look identical; looking like those stupid, googly-eyed twins that speak simultaneously. Damn it all! Now i can't narrow down with system is SUPER-IA, I can't make any sort of rationale judgment... I just choose, whichever one feels best for me! And suddenly games that looked superb, don't look as cool. What's happening to our multi-plat games. No conflict? No suffering? Surely if things are the same, and all rainbow-like, something must be holding back; something devious and dirty and ferocious and cooler...
Just demonstrates how anti-life the 360 actually is.
It was due to cost and dev time, it had nothing to do with the Xbox 360. Actually this is going to be a problem for a lot of developers as they are learning the cell. Didn't they have to actually bring in a Sony person to help them with the process? Wow. Your comment should really go in the Open Zone. Mods?
I read this game play a little like Gears and resident evil... two of my fav games of all time. can't wait to try it.
keep an eye on this game
Well, 1up has pretty much been saying that and the videogamer.com footage from the PS3 version confirms it.
I'm sure either the 360 or the PS3 version will have some very very minor difference that everyone will SCREAM makes one version vastly superior to the other. Like oh... Devil May Cry, where it the game is nitpicked to death on both systems but is basically identical in every way that actually means anything.
As long as it uses the same textures, has the same framerate, then IMO it looks the same.
there will ALWAYS be some difference; no matter how minor, or trivial. And I shall find it, exploit it, and smite all thee who have dared to buy the "other" system. Stupidity must be punished.
Well, you could be one of those losers who counts pixels for fun...
That sounds like fun! Bubbles for the inspiration, jack.
It's going to look the same and here I thought it was going to be like most of the other multiplatforms and look worse. So how much did they have to dumb down the 360 version to match it? They actually had to bring in a Sony consultant for a week? Wow, that doesn't add to your dev cost's or anything. Don't worry dev's you can code for the PS3 just fine, you will only need to hire a full time Sony employee for a week or so to get it so it runs decent. Ugh!
In many cases if you are registered Sony Developer Sony will provide a technician free of charge ^_- as part of the Service contract most developers have. And as for asking for help I guarantee that for all console developers have at one time or another called in Support to help with developmental issues..
ITS REALLY SAD THAT THE LAG BOX IS HOLDING BACK THE TRUE POTENTIAL OF THE PS3 AND WHEN I SAY THIS I MEAN DEV. ARE NOT PUSHING THE PS3 HARD ENOUGH THEY MAKE IT IN PAIR WITH THE 360 AND STOP - IF SONY WAS MAKING THIS GAME IT WOULD LOOK AND PLAY A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER
It's a shame Sony isn't the whole industry. If you consider reality for a second, multiplatorm dev's outnumber the first party dev's of all the companies(duh!). So who is actually holding back who? Read the article, PS3 people are lucky to even be getting this title. "Austin did admit, however, that the team hasn’t “figured out the PS3 entirely either but I can say confidently that it looks this good on the PS3, which is an achievement for most developers, [in fact] it looks exactly the same on the PS3.” Josh stressed that the development team “did not dummy down any textures” or “reduce the amount of effects on screen, stuff like that.” Austin said that the development team could have packed more content onto the PS3, but D3 wasn’t focusing on one console entirely for Dark Sector, as they couldn’t “because it’s so expensive, this new generation to make these games,” which lead to the decision “to do 360 and we had to do PS3 and frankly, the 360 has a better install base still.” At this point in the Dark Sector development process, however, the D3 team is “very confident and happy and excited that we actually made it look this good.” Read that.. It's an achievement when you can get the PS3 version to look as good as the 360 without having to dumb down the textures, etc. They could of added more content but dev time/costs prevented it as I'm sure it will for many developers. Ahhh, a nice slice of reality and what happens behind the scenes at these devhouses. All that "power" the PS3 has and developers can afford to learn it or exploit it.. Maybe in a few more years.. :( waiting again.
XBOX 360 version is most likeley to have frame rate hiccups and jaggies which leads to the gimped 360 version being neglected in favor of the vastly superior PLAYSTATION® 3 port of the game. $niper
What other games have D3 made?
They had make Pariah earlier for xbox and PC which was not very good. Also there earlier attempts were not very good but lets hope they cant turn the crowd around this time. Team Ninja and Gurrilla have succcessfully came out of previous failures.
I've learned to never trust these developers. It's in their best interest to say things like this to boost sales. Remember Turok?
Difference here is that it isn't UE3 (any game that started development before UT3 released with UE3 has pretty much been a fvcked up port) and that 1up themselves have seen the PS3 version of the game, says it is the same, and 1up are pretty harsh bastards on the PS3 versions of multiplatform games. Not to mention that there is a video preview comprised of PS3 footage on videogamer.com if you want to take a look for yourself.
I really hope they are the same. If that's the case I will be picking it up on my PS3. All this talk about RROD has got me all paranoid. 360 just for exclusives from now on.
You should do that, microsoft sure deserves some basing for there hardware failures. But in case you have no warranty on left 360, then try the X-clamp it makes 360 failure free, Gurantee. I have done that and since then no failures or even sudden freezing of video etc. I know its a burden but it gonna pay you. If you want help on this PM me. I can also provide you tip to boost up your load time on 360 or to erase disk error.
But teh cell..... was supposed to blow the 360 games from day one. After 1 1/2 years ps3 is still trying to catch up in looks dept to year older console.
Your daily fun zone.
This Game barely gets any coverage or exposure on N4G. and when it does it's like 3-10 comments. But You slap on The Heading xbox 360 and PS3 version are equal and Suddenly you have a Flame war with over 60+ comments. i cant undrstand how a game not many people care for can suddenly ignite a senseless war, the mind set of Fankids is a strange thing to wonder about, and should best be left alone.. But on topic, this Game looks very promising. seeing some of the Game play video's of recent gives me the feeling it's gonna be a great game, but overlooked. which is sad. but i know i wont over look it. march 26 my Glaive throwing begins. S sad this game wont get the praise and sale it truely deserves considering it's a mix of Uncharted, Gears, and Resident Evil 4, and some pretty good looking graphics. i cant wait.
