Top 10 PlayStation Vita Games of 2012

GameDynamo - "Reports of the PS Vita's death were greatly exaggerated. Like the PSP before it, the PlayStation Vita got off to a sluggish start and failed to unseat Nintendo's handheld dominance, but it gradually carved out a niche and developed its own loyal fanbase.

Though the price tag remains a sticking point for many, a continually expanding library of downloadable games makes the Vita more lucrative with each PSN update. Here are ten of the greatest Vita games so far (limited to the ones I actually played, hence the omission of Persona 4: Golden)." (Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, Gravity Rush, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, PS Vita, Rayman Origins, Retro City Rampage, Sound Shapes, Street Fighter x Tekken, Uncharted: Golden Abyss)

I agree with the list for the most part. The Vita has a varied amount of games and so far there is one top game, in each genre, that has come to the Vita and I expect that to expand in the coming years.

My list would vary, but not by much. I recently started playing Unit 13 and played a little bit Hastune Miku project Diva F and I think those games deserve a space on that list or at least an honorable mention. With some notable other recently released titles that has graced the Vita, as digital only titles.

Persona 4 wasn't on the list either. I haven't played it yet but it's been getting plenty 10's. Prolly gonna buy it tomorrow.

Persona 4G is something special.. that is, if you're into jrpg's. If not, here's my personal top 10:

- LittleBigPlanet PSVita
- Gravity Rush
- Uncharted Golden Abyss
- Rayman Origins
- Sound Shapes
- Super Stardust Delta
- Assassin's Creed Liberation
- Wipeout 2048
- Need For Speed Most Wanted
- Unit 13

I feel ashamed of myself for missing Persona 4: Golden. I haven't started it yet, I can't be drown in another RPG yet. Still playing Tale Of Graces F and Legend of Dragoon (Didn't beat it the first time).

As for Shinobido 2, I had it, but I didn't play it much. I bought it at launch and played it once. I'm hoping to see it on sale next week through the holiday essentials sale. If not, I will pick it up during the slow drought, that we call the summer.

Yeah, I recently started playing Unit 13 and feel that game was criminally overlooked.

Pretty much everything I've encountered so far has been positive. The online co-op works very well and is a lot of fun too.

Nice challenge too. I've only unlocked the second assassination mission and it's tough. So much so that I gave up in order to level up a bit more. Those shotgun dudes that seem to respawn in the basement are nails..

Only possible downside is maybe the number of locations / environments is a bit limited.
Godchild1020  +   1141d ago
I bought it when it first came out, but overlooked it, because it was a launch title. I ended up getting rid of it, like I did most of the launch titles, because I wasn't playing them.

If the title (And a few others)came out later, maybe a few months after the launch, I think Zipper Interactive (R.I.P) would still be open today and it would have sold better too. Even though it's a Third Person shooter, it's a lot better than the First Person Shooters that we have for the System to date. Also maybe a 4V4 online component would've helped as well.

I was happy to see it one sale on the PSN and jumped to give it ago again and happy that I did. It is pretty challenging, but I like the fact that it has that trail and error aspect to it.

I did notice that they reuse locations, but the enemies are a bit smarter and/or the missions are usually longer, then the previous one.

Totally agree about the timing of the release and Zipper. I think they came in for a lot of unnecessary stick. I realize Socom 4 didn't please everyone, but the online co-op in that was a blast too.

Well, I finally beat that second assassination mission, but it was not easy.

Anyway, hit me up if you want to play some co-op. I'll PM you my PSN ID.

Am I the only person on the whole planet that played Shinobido 2?..... and liked it?
izumo_lee  +   1141d ago
Shinobido 2 would have been great if they added a level creator like previous games in the franchise. It was a good game but was a little bit of a missed opportunity.

Anyways on topic. Gravity Rush was a fantistic game that uses the Vita's functions brilliantly. Persona 4 Golden is well Persona 4, a legendary game made even much more so legendary.

The Vita had spectacular games this year, those folks blinded by fanboyism are the ones that are missing out. It may not have a system seller (yet) but that doesn't mean there are no games for it.

Fantastic list!

Gravity Rush #1!! :D
Enemy  +   1141d ago
Persona 4: Golden, Gravity Rush, and Sound Shapes should be in the top 3, with P4: Golden at #1.
Hicken  +   1141d ago
I really, REALLY wanna put Gravity Rush at #1, but P4G is just so damn good!

So many great games this year. If anyone comments saying "I thought vita had no games" (looking at you, Mika) then you know what to do.

Not only the best vita game this year but also one of the best,if not, the best handheldgame of this generation. I cant praise it enough: great memorable music, great artstyle,
innovative, best character cast in years. Really a masterpiece. Also, I dont know why but the soundtrack of Gravity Rush reminds me of somethings i could find in Zelda,Dragon quest or Kingdom Hearts games."Gravity rush:resistance and Extermination"this one for exmple sounds a like something from Kingdom Hearts."Gravity Rush:old town" this one has that sugiyama vybe from Dragon quest games."Gravity rush: passing moment" this one no doubt reminiscent of Legend of Zelda. Just few example why i love the music in this game. Maybe it might be just my bias, but this is one of the reasons i love this game. It kinda reminds me of those games like chrono trigger, final fantasy, kingdom hearts and early zelda games. There was this special feeling and its the same with gravity rush

Yeah the first thing I noticed about Gravity Rush was the music. It was the thing that made me keep playing it for so long before trying out the other games I got like AC Liberation, Uncharted and Unit 13.
dafegamer  +   1141d ago
Normally i only get chills by well made videogame music(standsout are Final fantasy/dragon quest, Zelda, Kingdome hearts series) but man i was so amazed how good the soundtrack of Gravity Rush was
Definitely one of the best this year. You should listen to Ease Soooo Gooood.
r21  +   1141d ago
Agreed, the soundtrack was one of the best things about Gravity Rush :D Gives me nostalgia of past JRPGs.

MLB 12 plays amazing on Vita and Dokuro was one of my favs this year. Some good stuff on there considering what is available (And that is not a knock I love my vita) but I would not have at least half of them on my list
Kingthrash360  +   1141d ago
I will say this about this article.
Note: the list is great the picked games are great.
That said, you really can't make an accurate list without playing ALL of the vitas games of 2012.
I'm glad your were truthful about not playing all though, some writers would act like they played something but only read an review or two.
But there are some games that coulda made the list and this is an injustice to thos games. Not knocking the article but yeah you need to play all. If the title said " top 10 vita games of 2012 that I've played so far" then it's would have made sense.
Chapulin  +   1141d ago
Everyone forgot Ragnarok Odyssey.
Ult iMate  +   1141d ago
That's the good thing about Vita's library: top 10 list is not enough to mention all great games.
Myst-Vearn  +   1141d ago
Vita has 10 games? damn didn't know /troll
r21  +   1141d ago
Gravity Rush was one hell of a game >:) Cant wait for the sequel to include side missions, even more greater soundtracks, and a hopefully mindblowing story and possible conclusion to Kat's story.
