I Just Don't "Get" Dishonored | OnlySP

OnlySP writes:
"Dishonored is a brilliant new IP that shows a lot of promise in both its mechanics and story potential thanks to the incredible amount of lore that was packed into this inaugural outing. Played with either a stealth or action orientation, it is so finely tuned that every fundamental aspect of it remains solid. In spite of all this, I just don’t “get” it and because of the difficulty in pinpointing the reasoning, I have elected to write this belated post-mortem in exploration." (Culture, Dishonored, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

dishonored was amazing, a breath of fresh air.

Couldn't agree less.

Yep. Reminded me of the Thief games because of all the freedom it offered you.

Pay attention, Game Industry! You can do a linear, level-based game that still has a ton of freedom. For all the pomp and hype, Dishonored managed to give me more freedom and options than bigger games like Skyrim and Far Cry 3.

Good game, but far too easy.

One of the best ps3 this year, imo

Its great game.
but I think the ways were you can play with stealth or not is not that good.
I don't mean the different ways when you could enter the buildings.
It should be a stealth game only .
try to play it sneaking only.. Its more addictive.

So essentially what we have here is another opinion piece about how a gamer couldn't get into a game and then ends it with a list of things that will "make future games better".

...to who? You? The public?

Could video game bloggers FOR ONCE make an opinion piece that sticks to the principles of KEEPING IT ABOUT WHAT THE AUTHOR THINKS? Too many times it goes from "I feel that" to "The game failed/flopped because" and turn it into a fact-based diatribe.

Who is saying that the game needs all of these "improvements"? Oh that's right, you and your "opinion" piece.

Gaming "journalism / op-eds" are the worst.

That's what happens when a public forum becomes available to people who aren't educated and/or trained to make comments in a public forum.

That's the thing, if he did state his opinion, the article might have gotten flamed hard by trolls. If he just said "In my opinion, this game was dull and boring" people would call him a COD fan and point him over to the explosions. In order to expand on why he thinks the game is dull, he tries and explains the facts.

I got hit hard on these forums mainly because I had a negative opinion about the Sony-smash clone. I thought it was a boring/lack-luster on all fronts. Smash bros Celebrates Nintendo, Sony All-stars doesn't. That's my opinion, but again, there are kids who take opinions as facts and follow the crowd.

It's really hard to share real opinions on gaming sites sometimes without getting everyone mad or having yourself get harassed by fans or trolls. Just look at the whole ME3-ending fiasco. Gamers can get super crazy.

Sorry Dishonored was a huge disappointment for me
It's probably the most overrated game of the Generation, short, easy and linear The Game exceeded the hype in my opinion
Dark_Legend  +   580d ago
How can this game be short? If you use only stealth then you will need 12-14 hours, you have lots of options to complete your missions. Of course it is easy if you just rush through the game because you become too early too overpowered. In this matter i agree with you, but it is in no way too linear.

Maybe you should try a different playstyle. It is very good if you like stealth games

Most overrated game this gen in my opinion are Uncharted-Mass effect series.

Dishonored is a wonderful game which sadly will only be appreciated by stealth fans, same with Alpha protocol. For an original title and not a sequel it's very very good and had some originalities.

If he just doesn't 'get' it, then that's his problem.

You go to play a game with certain expectations and preconceptions you're bound to be disappointed.
NiteX  +   580d ago
I don't "get" how people can say its easy. You get killed in less than a second on just normal difficulty. Maybe play it on the 4th difficulty?
Abdou23  +   580d ago
It's never easy or short on non-lethal stealth playthrough, requires patience and a lot of time to complete.

Pople who think it's easy or short played it same way they play COD.
LawlessSXE  +   580d ago
No, it is easy on a stealth playthrough because that's the way it is designed to be played. All you have to do is sit back and learn the unaltering enemy paths and then you can waltz up behind them and take them out with no-one being any the wiser.

It becomes difficult when you choose to turn the game into a bloodbath because the volume of enemies. Trust me, I tried both paths during my playthrough.

" All you have to do is sit back and learn the unaltering enemy paths and then you can waltz up behind them and take them out with no-one being any the wiser. "

This actually not that easy at all.
LawlessSXE  +   579d ago
Requiring patience =/= being difficult, unless you're a CoD-ite who can't sit still for three seconds.

I rented it for a bit and don't understand the wow factor it has, if people want to say it's a great game or goty be my guest.

The stealth isn't hard, minimal killing is another story for me, i guess some people love it instantly others not so much.

It's interesting to see an alternate industrial world, but as far as a breath of fresh air, i guess that depends on the person.

I enjoyed Dishonored. It reminded me of the type of game that would appear on the PC in the mid to late 90's (the golden age). It was too short though and I actually found a second playthrough counterproductive as it felt like I had to shift the way I played in a very specific manner.

It almost brings me back to the complaint about morality systems. You are either good or evil. There is no middle ground. That's how Dishonored felt to me. You are either non-lethal or lethal. Stealthy or not stealthy. It had no middle ground. You chose how to play at the start and had to stick with it. You could do a little of both but it felt to me like you were not supposed to.
