Far Cry vs Far Cry 2 vs Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3 for me, Far Cry 2 was plain boring and I really don't remember much about Far Cry 1

Not even for the 3. It's using more of the CryEngine 3 than the Dunia one even if it shares the name. At least, they kept the fire tech and maybe the vegetation tech.

Far Cry 2 was an awesome game. Its usually a bunch of Halo pansies that say that they didn't like the game because it was too hard. The multiplayer was a ton of fun too, but the only problem was that CoD: World at War and CoD 4 were dominating the multiplayer space, so FC2 went largely unnoticed.

Far Cry 3 is largely just the same few missions over and over too. It's just a lot more fun because the gameplay is a lot better, thanks to better AI, controls, vehicle mechanics and so forth.

I don't see how FC2 was a 'money grubbing attempt' at all, it clearly had high production values, it just shot itself in the foot in a few areas and fell short of expectations.

Far Cry 2 was good except for its bugs. It is great demo on how fr cry 3 turned out because if you look a lot of the ideas and mechanics that are in Fr Cry 2 are in far cry 3. One thing I would say Far Cry 3 really does limit how you take on objectives. In Far Cry 2 the boundary for each objective was vast. In Far Cry 3 it seems to have linerfied it at points and made objective boundaries quite small

The gunplay and driving in FC2 felt like shit. That pretty much condemned it for me regardless of anything else in the game.

If you're going to make a shooter with driving, at least get those 2 components right.

At the end of the day, "Dunia" or "CryEngine" are just names. But they've obviously based their new engine on the CryEngine 3, rather than working on their own Dunia. You can see it by the way it renders, hell even some of the moves are strangely close to those of Crysis 2 (sliding, cover system, etc.). And most of all, Ubisoft mentions the use of the CryEngine and the official site of the engine cites the game as one their showcases: http://mycryengine.com/inde...

They call it Dunia 2 because surely they've made some heavy modification to it and added their own sauce like the fire tech from Far Cry 2 and optimized it for a true open-world, but they must have started working on the CE3 not the first Dunia.

OMG! I hated FarCry 2, boring and repetitive and it was basically the definition for rinse and repeat! -kill some guys here at this base, then go to the next base kill some guys there...

FarCry 1 was a PC monster, if you had a good graphics card with good FPS the game was amazing... Lots of fun and awesome for it's time..

FarCry 3 I have no idea how it is because after FarCry 2 I could not touch another FarCry game, Just thinking about doing it makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth... LoL

I understand where your coming from man. I played FarCry 2 and hated it. Malaria was probably the most annoying feature in a game ever and the game was extremely repetitive. There was no fast travel. Nuff said. lol

But I've been playing FarCry 3 and it's just been an epic adventure. Everything has been improved upon and is really a ton of fun. Multiplayer is fun, but needs a little bit of tweaking to get it perfect. Coop is a blast if you have friends that play it.

I'm not telling you that you NEED to play it, but ya know..sometime down the line, you might want to give this one a play. It's actually a really great game.

What put me off Far Cry 2 was the way the NPCs spoke in super speed. I thought it was a bug and reinstalled the game but I later found out that, that was the way the game was!

I mean, how can you ship a game with such a glaring problem? Please tell me it wasn't just me who noticed it and that it wasn't actually just a bug.

omg LMAO! So true! Horrible voice acting in Far Cry 2, it's like they were all told to blow through their lines in one take and as fast as possible because Ubi' only rented the studio for an hour.

That plus my gun jamming up sometimes twice in a fight, malaria, infinite spawning roadblocks...ugh. Pretty but over rated. FC3 is better in every sense of the word.

FarCry = CLASSIC game and it's gorgeous CryEngine still holds up well even today! Should be played by everyone as it truly is an adventure....that gets horrible hard near the end!

FarCry2 = Dunia Engine was very nice with some of the best vegetation and fire ever but the game felt more like Grand Theft FarCry 2: Gopher Missions than the outstanding story of FarCry

FarCry 3 = Looks Great, Michael Mando (Vaas Montenegro) voice acting is Oscar Worthy but i haven't played it fully so i cant really comment on it! Many people say GOTY!

Loved both three and two, never played one. I thought two was hard compared to three, and personally I think two took a lot more creative thinking that three, although on a fun level three is the more fun game, but just barely.

You are right in a way. But FC3 is much less boring and repetitive than FC2. FC3 lasts alot longer before you get bored.

Far cry 3 fixed the bad things about Far cry 2 and then took out some of the good things. Overall FC3 is much much better.

Far cry 2 = Chore to play, but has some good things about it, look up the definition of Flawed Gem and Far cry 2 sits beside it.

Far cry 3 = Fun accessible game, very easy, good fun to **** around, good combat mechanics.

Far cry 2 - 6/10 it's just too boring too quick
Far cry 3 - 8/10 it gets boring eventually and there is no real challenge(maybe this is why it gets boring)

haven't played 3 yet, but anyone who's played the PC version of 1 knows that very few open world FPSes can reach that level... 2 was so far down it was bad.... even if 3 is twice as good it's not as good as 1

True, but Far Cry 2 was actually more open worlded than the original Far Cry.
It gave the illusion of being open, but quite often you were actually following a patch, be it a very large one.

Far cry 3 for the amount of detail that has gone into the world.

So much going on all the time, gunshots in the distance, animals hunting each other. I've spent as much time throwing grenades at turtles and saving pigs from dogs as I have doing missions =p

Its an interesting world to travel. Unlike Farcry 2, I'll never understand the hype for that game once the initial excitement of attacking a base at night was gone, it turned out to be a boring and repetitive world filled with boring and repetitive missions.

One of the greatest disappointments this gen after all that hype...

I hated the stupid malaria burden and the instant respawn soldiers. That was annoying! Throwing molotovs into the grass in front of a group of soldiers is awesome!

Far Cry 1 was great due to it being the very first free roaming, sandbox shooter. Though 3 surpasses it in every possible way (won't even mention the second, cause, ya know... cancer!)

FarCry 1 was great, FarCry 2 sucked, FarCry 3 seems to be okay, but it really should have been named something else. They should have just started new franchise with last two games, while also continuing with story of FarCry 1.

Seems like a lot of FC2 bashing. I think in part, it is because normal was the worst difficulty. Easy was more simple fun with the ability to act reckless and carry a lot of ammo, yet hard and infamous forced you to play the game properly. Normal didn't really strike either cord and played like a generic fps with more driving.

Really, before anyway completely disregards FC2 (though it is getting old now, so you might as well) try it on infamous - you have to be a lot more cautious and planning and make sure you properly scout.

I loved pull off cruel tactics like instead of opting for the 1 hit kill .50 cal, taking the svd to wound the enemy in order to lure out more of them to try and save him. It's an old adage in some cultures that wounding an enemy is more harmful killing and I liked how FC2 showed that.

Granted the game had a lot of flaws, but it was a very unique FPS that actually required a lot of thought to play properly without having a complex tactics system.

id rather just play crysis, it did everything better and was the real far cry 2 to me. Funny how things have changed though, crysis 2 was good but not great, and far cry 3 is awesome.

It was unfortunate what happened with FC2, I saw a developer demo at an expo about 6 months before launch and it looked amazing. Basically their idea was to have an open, living world populated by people who actually reacted to your actions. So if you went into a village nobody would react negatively, but as soon as you tried stealing a car (for example) people would start shouting at you and any guys who were armed would open fire. Then they got hit by the racism scandal and had to refocus the game in a few months to keep to their launch schedule. Still had a great setting, but it clearly wasn't the originally intended product and should have been delayed longer to get it up to scratch.

Considering Far Cry 2 and 3 are just graphical updates on Far Cry 1... I'd say the latest (with the best graphics), Far Cry 3.

Far Cry 1: Amazing, beautiful, immersive experience for its time.

Far Cry 2: Great ideas, but fell flat on execution due to annoying features (respawning checkpoints, malaria, etc)

Far Cry 3: Almost a great game, but took too many steps back from FC1 to be considered amazing.
+Great visuals and open world
+Great first person immersion
+Lot's of variety
-Worse physics than FC1 (seriously WTF?)
-WAY too much handholding (why can't I move 20 feet outside of the "mission area" in an open world game???)
-The save system (worst implementation ever)
-Only one or two NPC types (this is just lazy as hell)
-The HUD (seriously, do I need giant flashing arrows, highlights, and text covering every square inch of the screen? I'm not 5 years old)

Overall, If the above issues were fixed, I would give FC3 a 10, but as is, I would rate it a notch below FC1 in terms of its competition at the time.

Its interesting how they hav upped the quality each time and by the third, they r in goty realm. Its almost better to do it this way, though u wont sell as much. Far cry 4 will probably sell the most copies because of 3's success. Anyway, i think of uncharted and mass effect. So many were disappointed with the 3rd installments, when the reason was that the 2nd ones were so good, both getting goty. I recently replayed ME series and uncharted. I must say, i liked the 3rd games the best in both cases. Though there are aspects about ME1 that i loved because i am an rpg fanatic, but thats another story.

Anyway, i think games r judged by their separation from the previous title. It becomes hard to love the next one, even if its better, because the jump in quality isnt as great. I think bioshock 2 was better than 1 but obviously the first stands out because it was so enthralling and new. I loved New Vegas too but most will only remember Fallout 3. So heres to far cry 3 for taking the natural progression and putting it all together. Good luck with 4, though u will have new hardware. That will help, though it may also make the expectatikns sky high.

Anyone who thinks Far Cry 3 comes anywhere near Far Cry 2 really doesn't underestand what makes games great. Far Cry 3 is boring and iterative. The games protagonist is just another trite white male superhero power fantasy. There is never any real sense of peril,just some whiny guy who just happens to be an unstoppable killer. You clear out areas one at a time and thats that. My brother was murdered and my friends are being held captive and sold into slavery or worse but if I can mark one more shark with my camera and shoot said shark with a sniper rifle safely from the shore I can get a bigger wallet which in itself is meaningless because the economy in this game is broken.
Far Cry 2. What a beautiful game. You play as a rugged mercenary who does know how to fire a gun and is combat savvy but still you find yourself in a truly oppresive situation. Malaria, gun jams, backstabbing collegues; this game drops you into its world and says try your best but you may fail.

I only got a couple hours into Far Cry 2 before it became extremely boring. Far Cry 3 didn't start to get a little boring until the 25 hour mark (it's still fun, just repetitive).

Up until now I thought this franchise was total garbage, 3 changed my mind though. Hopefully the next one has more variety in missions.

Far Cry 2 was one of those games you had to force yourself to finish. It was so much driving they called it Far Drive 2. The missions got really repetitive and the story wasn't that great. Now, Far Cry 3... that's a game you have to force yourself to stop playing because it's so damn fun!
