Quote: "While it’s not usually kosher to reward a game for having a strange or bizarre ending, what we can at least do is draw attention to those games of this year which had endings that just left us all sitting there going, “…… What the fuck?” And so the Most WTF Ending award was created, so that we might discuss these games and explain why they were noteworthy. If anything, it’s a means of showing you which developers dared to do things differently, and how they managed to do so.
Keep in mind that because we are discussing endings, there is a minor spoiler warning attached, so you might wish to skip ahead if you don’t want a certain game’s ending spoiled for you. With that, let’s get underway. "
Not only that, but the whole war assets thing was for nothing; not to mention the plot holes.
The Reapers came second
The ending to Me3 had basically no closure for the characters, and its focus on the Reapers might have have been OK but that sucked too. The ending failed, and people had a right to be upset (but they went to far I think, but Bioware did lie to us about what the ending would be like so they did deserve criticism for it). I enjoyed EC cuz of its focus on characters, wish it was better but I can live with the ending now and appreciate Bioware making it.
Flawed game but still a great one.
You could make the case that the entire plot of ME3 was a deus ex machina for the trilogy. Strip away the sub plots and that's what you get, a series of contrived plot devices ending with a literal deus ex machina.
I agree with your point 100%, I'm just arguing semantics.
The thing about the ending is that it wasn't like they presented a bold, unique, artistic vision and bit off more than they could chew. It was painfully unoriginal and lacked even a basic resolution of the trilogy. ME2 had a much simpler ending yet gave the illusion of complexity and felt very original. Which is why I totally expected ME3 to end in a similar way.
I've got three. Ghost Trick, Catherine and Valkyria Chronicles. Everything else has been either average underwhelming at best, or just terrible.
