The Meaning Of Box Art, The Decision To Change, And The Bioshock Infinite Situation

Heath Hindman examines both sides of the Bioshock Infinite box art fiasco. Does box art really matter? Did Irrational Games do the right thing by offering the alternative? What does all of this mean? (2K Games, BioShock: Infinite, Culture, Industry, Irrational Games, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I like the new box better than the original image, though I would have preferred one with both the guy and the girl on it. Oh well, still excited for the game.

in my opinion boxart doesnt matter anymore, because back then you didnt have gameplay videos to show you what the game would play like so when getting a game you decided based on the boxart, nowadays you just go to youtube and can make up your mind.

but the point is that it's only the "hardcore" gamers that do extensive research on the game they're getting. that's why Irrational chose the box art in the first place, to attract the wider audience of the CoD bros who all probably discovered CoD from word-of-mouth, and not gameplay previews and trailers etc.

I actually prefer the original box art.

There was nothing wrong with it. People are just probably so eager to rip the game a new asshole that they couldn't wait. So they attacked the box art first.
