Are Zelda Games Meant to be Realistic?

ZD writes: Over the past few days, I’ve had the pleasure of engaging several people on our forums–as well as elsewhere–on the topic of realism in Zelda games, particularly in terms of visuals. (3DS, GameCube, Nintendo DS, Retro, The Legend of Zelda, Wii)

That was a horrible picture choice.

Really?

Edit:
LoZ can attempt the "realistic" graphics, but not to the point of modern games. It's soul is in it's particular design. Making it realistic would be a something hard to understand and accept, IMO.

If it works within the context of the game, then I don't really have any bias toward one style or the other. Contrary to popular belief, a "realistic" style does not necessarily mean that a game is going to be devoid of all whimsy or creative design.

I was always a fan of the Ocarina/Majora look (realistic but stylized and colorful). I did really like Skyward Sword's look though (probably the only complete compliment I can give that game). I think overall, a realistic environment is great but needs vibrant colors. However, characters should always maintain a certain animated appearance.
