GTA V Will Go Next-Gen... Eventually

GR's DeShaun Zollicoffer writes:

I know what you’re thinking, “Wait… everyone knows Grand Theft Auto V is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360.” That’s true; the game will obviously still come to those platforms next year. But I believe that we will also see an enhanced next-generation version sometime in the near future. Now, before labeling me a dirty rumormonger, hear me out. (Grand Theft Auto V, Next-Gen, PS3, Xbox 360)

it look next gen quite frankly
Snookies12  +   1021d ago
Mainly the scope of the game, its size is enormous... People think next-gen will be a huge leap. Really, we're already just about there in current games. It's not going to be THAT much different to be honest.

Why the disagrees? Do people actually think it'll be a huge difference to what we have now?
ILive  +   1021d ago
It's not going to be as huge as PS2 to PS3 but there as to be a significant amount of difference to warrant a purchase. For example, Wii to the Wii U. Otherwise, why release another console? You get what I am saying right?

Triple AAA titles are hitting their limits with the current systems, mainly due to hardware limitations. If you dont think a significant upgrade to the GPU, CPU, and RAM will allow developers to make better games, you've gone off the deep end. Sure, it's not going to be the end all be all of gaming (It very well could be the last generation of consoles as we are use to them) but it sure should make for better AI, Graphics, Physics, and Connectivity between devices. When the lowest common denominator is upgraded, so too are the games.

I agree, People are thinking that Graphics are going to be like a PS2-PS3 jump, and that is not just not the case. There is a graphical saturation point, and its pretty close to being reached.
ExitToExisT  +   1021d ago
Wait till you see the actual, muddy graphics with 15-20 fps on x360 / ps3

edit: If you don't believe me, you will see that i'm right in about 5 months.

We haven't actually seen the gameplay yet. Also, Gta games have not been the greatest in graphics because of their scope. They have been pretty decent however. GTA games have never really been about the graphics anyway. I do expect it to be better looking than the mess that was GTA 4.
Enemy  +   1021d ago
Based on what, sped up trailers or bull-shots? Wait to see gameplay.
claud3  +   1021d ago
That's a given... I do not see rockstar passing that up

GTA V Will Go Next-Gen... PC version.
MuhammadJA  +   1020d ago
The console kiddies disagree with you.
OneAboveAll  +   1020d ago
Of course we will. Do you think we are stupid? We all know the PC version will be a crappy port.
clarkdef  +   1020d ago
Why are console owners kiddies mate? How the hell are kiddies affording to buy these machines and the games that go with them?

Yes the PC version will look better I have GTA4 on PC and it does look better, it does this annoying frame skip thing constantly but it still looks better. Still prefer it on the ps3 for what reason I have no idea, just do.
Pintheshadows  +   1021d ago
And it will be called GTA6. Probably.

What makes people think they will release their new consoles in 2013?

If they announce it at E3 2013, it won't be released till late 2014. Nintendo announced the WiiU at E3 2011, minor stuff. Then at E3 2012, they showed more and it was released in November 2012.

They always do that. They show it at E3 and it gets release the year after. They don't just come in at E3, show it and announce it's gonna be released in 3 months. Unless of course, they're releasing a revision of a console already out (like PS3 slim and 360 Slim)

Don't listen to devs like Crytek who says they need new consoles. First party devs are still pulling more power out of them every games they release. Devs like Crytek need to start optimizing their engines.

Yes, you may be making a game that takes 100% of the console's power, but it's probably not optimized and the code is garbage that takes too much ressources. If you had optimized it, your 100% could become anywhere from 50% to 90% depending how bad it was).

The fact that First party devs can still do wonders with 6 years hardware means we don't necessarly need them yet. Also, the WiiU isn't as good as a PS3 or 360, so they really don't need to hurry. It will take about 2 or 3 years before they learn how to use the WiiU and make multiplatforms looks as good as PS3 and 360. No rush, no need to push a new console out right now.

"At E3, Sega announced that the Saturn was released the same day as the press conference in the US. Their strategy was to release the console early so they could get a strong base before Sony released their console in September."

Strange things have been known to happen. Of course that was back in '95, and they made a couple mistakes such as not informing developers of the launch so they could have games ready, and the lack of wide-spread internet meant a 20-30 day delay for a lot of gamers who got their news from magazines back then.

However, it is possible... That was my main point.

With the advent of HD remakes/collections and much more scalable engines I have assumed a couple publishers at the very least will go this route at some point. The simple fact is, PC versions could easily be scaled to fit next gen specs for "easy" releases especially as rumors are the tech is more mainstream compared to, say, PS3's Cell.

I don't necessarily assume any particular game is being planned for it ATM but just saying I wouldn't be surprised.

The fact people are willing to buy the HD remakes makes for strong support as I bet nearly half or more that actually buy them are those that already owned/played it aanyways and want to be both nostalgic and see it "in a new light" with better visuals.

More than likely though games will end up being released for new consoles and old (this gen) much like PC gets enhanced "next gen" versions today (for a while at least, and not for every game). I wouldn't be surprised though to see a few games next gen that have already been released though--PC gamers are willing to wait (or even buy two versions) and they are testing the waters with Wii U already (Darksiders, ME3, etc).

Won't happen, GTA VI will be built on a new graphics engine to utalise the new tech. GTA V WILL BLOODY SELL AND HAVE HUGE SALES YOU DUMBO!
WeskerChildReborned  +   1021d ago
It's possible but i'm already excited enough just knowing that the screenshots in Gameinformers issue was running on a PS3.
Indo  +   1021d ago
If it involves racking in large amounts of simoleons than yes eventually... 3years later on the Ps4 Store GTA V HD+ now for a low price of $29.99

Ha..Next gen consoles will be no more than current gaming pcs. The ps3 leap did wonders, don't expect Avatar like graphics this time around.
Hozi  +   1020d ago
I want my games to look like the Agni's Philosophy TECH DEMO. That is supposedly realtime running off the engine. I think that is a huge leap from now in terms of visuals!!! Also, I can't wait for MGS5!!!
bozebo  +   1020d ago
Well, there shouldn't be any messy hardware to tweak the engine for too much. I suspect next-gen console hardware will be even closer to PC, possibly to the point where all R* have to do is change a few header files in the PC distribution's source code (for the RAGE engine) for OS stuff and compile it for the systems. And maybe wait for Euphoria to support the platforms (fucking middleware).

Doubtful, I mean they didn't make San Andreas for HD systems after the last generational leap. Probably see a port
