What happened was I'm trying to convince myself to pay $60 so I can play Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 online when I just paid $50 and got 20+ games for free...
I'm okay with paying for Xbox Live Gold but I'm about to get Battlefield 3 for my PS3 so it's hard to convince myself to pay for Live when I may not have time to use it. Although I did just get Halo 4 and Black Ops 2, don't wanna waste those.
I'd be nice if XBL were free. But the fact it continues to grow only shows MS that people don't really mind paying for it. If that's the case, then I don't think XBL will ever be free until the community just decided they had enough.
I mean I guess you can gather from these stats that it hasn't slowed down one bit. I still pray one day XBL will be free for everyone. But at this point, it's a long shot.
@KangarooSam- Not calling you a liar, but NOBODY I know pays $60 (full price) for live. Seems to me like people who say that's what they pay don't even have live. I mean, you can obviously find your way around the internet, made an account on a gaming news site, posted comments, but you can't figure out Amazon or Newegg? I don't get it...
Let's see... should MS be happy with (by your estimate) (A) $720-780 MILLION/yr revenue, with "only" 12-13 million subscribers...or (B) $0/yr with 50 million subscribers? Keep in mind, of course, that the majority of those Gold subscribers also purchase DLC, movies, music, etc. Hmmmm...it's a tough call, but I'm betting they'll stick with option A.

You can get subscriptions from retail and online retailers for a lot cheaper than that. I think a lot of people opt for Xbox due to the it being the most advertised, if you will, for a console that caters to children and adults with the Entertainment side etc.
I've not paid more than $35-40 in the past 6 years...many of which came with a bonus month (12+1)...and that includes since it jumped to $60. Newegg and Amazon always have great deals on 12 mo. Live Gold, and I never pay tax or shpg.
For my little brothers silver account, they always have deals to entice you to get gold. $2 for 2 months has happened a few times, and other $1, 1 month specials.
The family pack is great also. I don't mean to sound like a drone, but I do hope that they incorporate some of the great sales and deals that PS+ subscribers get. I am loving the 12 days of Christmas sale on XBL though. Great.
They have more deals on XBL than people realize....MS just doesn't openly advertise them, nor mention them as an enticement to get XBLG. In the past year alone, I've downloaded 4 free games, and about 15 others that were 50% off.
Back in April they said by July 1st 2012. XBL would go free to play. it was even advertised on the Xbox dashboard when you turn on the xbox. What happened cause it was clearly about to be done?
I think what Hingle meant was somewhere between dreaming about that super model under your arm and becoming a pro athlete, you seen the free live subscription floating across the sky. Because in reality, there was no talk of it.
A billion dollar company likey isnt going to promote false advertising, so in all honesty, you probably just got your facts mixed up. I'd have to ask for a link or screen to verifiy your claim, but its very doubtful to exist.
well im sorry i dont have a hauppauge to record my game screens. and yes i know fanboys and supporters of money-grubbign companies will never believe me. but honestly yes i did see that commercial. it said " july 1st xbox goes free to play" on the xbox dashboard.

I've got almost 3yrs on XBL and never got a free game. The only time I've seen something free is if you buy 3 games and get one or when they have the special where you get a low amount of points back for spending 1200+ by the end of the month. But since I have only paid about $32 a year, its really the only reason why I maintain my gold. Cause Blops2 cost the same 60 bucks on ps3.

If it were free it'd likely be up around the 50million count like Sony.

There are great deals for both all it takes is a little window shopping and you will find them.
