The Biggest Disappointments Of 2012

kotaku.com: 2012 was a hell of a year for video games. We got a ton of fantastic games to play, surprises of all shapes, sizes, and colors. It was also a year of upheaval, when things often didn't go according to plan, and when many a game failed to live up to expectations. (Diablo III, Game of Thrones, NBA Live 13, PC, PS Vita, PS3, Star Wars:The Old Republic, Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor, Twisted Metal , Xbox 360)

Kraptaku voted down.
ziggurcat  +   1027d ago
i also voted down. not even going to give them the satisfaction of a hit because i'm willing to bet that half of the list is sony-related for no good reason.

I agree 100% with Diablo 3.... Such a major letdown.
banjadude  +   1027d ago
I'm so sad about that, too. I'm a huge Diablo fanboy and I even bought the collector's edition. After about a week of playing, I just didn't feel like it was fun enough/worth it to bother with the higher difficulties.

I dropped the game afterwards and never went back. A damn shame, really...
sithsylar  +   1027d ago
Exactly how i feel as well... This is what happens when you make a game around a drm....
Hydralysk  +   1027d ago
That's what happens when you pull out all the stat mechanics and skills choices and instead make every same level character identical except for their gear...

Granted it took awhile to level up a character in D2 but it was always fun to try out new and possibly stupid builds instead of giving us every single spell just for leveling up.

It was on the ropes and the auction house killed it
majiebeast  +   1027d ago
Only thing they got right was the Collosal failure of Diablo 3 a game thats been run into the ground by lack of content running act 3 can only be fun for a while and bots.
kingjoker34  +   1027d ago
Swtor was also a let down
Hydralysk  +   1027d ago
I thought swtor launched last year...sometime in early december if I remember right.
TXIDarkAvenger  +   1027d ago
Sad that Twisted Metal was a let down, I played the series since I was kid and it was insanely fun. I remember watching E3 2010 live and they showed the TM trailer, I was like fuck yeah!

Twisted Metal got good reviews. Are u THAT gullible to listen to the opinion of Kotaku? Go check out other reviews.
jimbobwahey  +   1026d ago
Only speaking for myself here but I've really enjoyed Twisted Metal. If you grew up playing the originals or Black then it's a must-buy as far as I'm concerned.

I think some people disliked it because they didn't compromise the original design to appeal to a broader market, it's strictly for the fans and unlike most multiplayer games it actually takes a decent amount of firepower to kill someone, so combat between players is quite long and very skill-based.
neoMAXMLC  +   1026d ago
You should really play the game first. Easily my most favorite multiplayer game of the year.

Kotaku is the last place to follow opinions.

List needs more Mass Effect 3.
Hydralysk  +   1027d ago
Not likely since kotaku was one of the chief defenders of the ending.

To be "fair" they did at the beginning, then later they had one of their writers post an article hating the ending.

It was probably just for hits though.
RandomDude655  +   1027d ago
More Resident Evil 6...most disappointing and awful game of the generation

Deserves to be on there 6 times

I expected that game to be awful, so it didn't disappoint, it delivered.
DrChainsaw  +   1027d ago
Wow, Kotaku sure hate Sony.

they dont hate anything. They need your hits so they can make money. List articles are a quick way to generate money and should be banned from N4G.

So tired of list articles... damn. No substance at all. If you want to know how it works, read this i promise it will be worth your while:

rainslacker  +   1027d ago
I don't think they hate Sony perse, I just think they prefer Microsoft, and their readership is obviously pro-MS. Sony has just been the easy target this gen, which is strange since MS tends to be a target big time outside the gaming world.

In Kotaku's defense though(ugh...pains me to do), they actually do make their own lists, so aren't really doing what the guy in your article is saying.

I don't think Sony are too fond of Kotaku either.
Norrison  +   1027d ago
They forgot to mention the war z, oh wait... it's a kotaku article, they always suck
Williamson  +   1027d ago
I dont see the vita as a disapointment...far from it.Maybe the sales can fall under a disapointment, but not the system itself imo.
TheLastGuardian  +   1027d ago
lol didn't read.

Twisted Metal was my most anticipated game for the past couple years and it met my expectations. I think it's just too hardcore for most gamers to get into.

I think PS Vita is the best platform of 2012. It's everything I could want in a handheld and much more. The game library is fantastic for it's first year. It has some of the best handheld games I've ever played. I'm thankful that I can afford a PS Vita and a lot of games for it. I can't wait to see what great PS Vita games the future holds.

How did you know Twisted Metal was on the list if you didn't read it? lol

Hicken  +   1027d ago
How can kotaku still be rated so highly?
Plagasx  +   1027d ago
Where the FUCK is NINJA GAIDEN 3?? That game was a COLOSSAL disappointment.
GribbleGrunger  +   1027d ago
Why would fewer sales of the Vita than expected be a disappointment to them? That would only make sense if they had shares in the damn thing. Has Sony stopped giving them free games to review or something?

looks like the Vita has a year of life left.
e-p-ayeaH  +   1026d ago
The year itself was a disappointment.
googergieger  +   1026d ago
I guess they are saving Mass Effect 3 for their, "biggest disappointments of all time" list.
GreenRanger  +   1026d ago
Thw War Z and Ninja Gaiden should be on this list.
The Vita shouldn't be.
