The Wii U Isn’t Just A Large Scale DS In Function, It’s One In Spirit As Well
Kotaku - Nintendo's Wii U is out, and say what you will about the innovative new controller or long loading times, it's definitely making its mark on the gaming world.
(Nintendo DS, Wii U)
I am a little bothered some games have me looking at the gamepad instead of my nice TV more often then others (pikmin minigame in Nintendo land is amazing, but im looking at my gamepad not my tv).
so i am also a little hesitant...
I really want to see what some games use it for (and hopefully they run well... my AC3 is so choppy).
This is one of the most obviously biased titles for an article I've ever seen and that's saying something. I get it. Having two screens on a handheld might have inspired the idea for Wii U. But that's where the comparison ends.
I hear people saying that Wii U is basically a console version of DS. The only people who say that are Wii U's detractors. And it's inaccurate to say the least. DS cannot do five player local co-op, asymmetric gameplay, or playing on either TV or gamepad. And last time I checked, DS doesn't incorporate wii motes and nunchucks.
In other words, people are trying to passive aggressively marginalize Wii U by saying it's not that interesting idea, just a DS in console form, while ignorantly ignoring the new and very different concepts being introduced. Wii U isn't a large scale DS in function. It's a whole lot more.
the wiiu is a fantastic platform...i always say nintendo has a goldmine on their hand...and of course sony and microft will copy them...and then all the little crybaby haters will all of the sudden develop a love for gamepad control and miiverse environment...its silly...

Edit: Note, I don't own one yet. But, I will, if the above comes true.
