Dark Souls 2: eight things you need to know

OXM - Dark Souls 2 factoids have been dribbling through the internet's fissures for a couple of weeks now, but rather than writing about it, I've been looking on worriedly like a dog confronted by a wind-up kitten.

Too early for Dark Souls articles. I love the games but it might not even drop in 2013.

We'll hear endless speculation until we actually see a full unveil. My guess is that it might not even happen until E3, as the comments from Edge about the graphics lead me to believe it is being developed for next-generation consoles and possibly current gen as well. This would also explain the increase in the size of the team as well as the team feeling the need to make it somewhat more accessible.
Obviously this is all speculation on my part. I just hope they plan to accomplish this by simply explaining things more clearly to newcomers early in the game, rather than changing the difficulty or offering different difficulty levels. I think adding varying degrees of difficulty would change the community in a negative way. One of the cool things about the game when you're in someone's game helping them or vice versa is that you both know what it took to get to that point. Altering that in any way would also change the "Us against them" feeling that made teamwork so enjoyable in the previous games.

The game will be ruined by spoilers before it comes out. Oh by the way Demon Souls had dedicated servers.

The game isn't good though.

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.
