Pretty sure we all saw this coming, unfortunately. This isn't the end, but it's not good. I hope nothing but the best for everyone involved.
da_2pacalypse  +   152d ago
We're all just hoping that EA doesn't buy them out... We don't need any of their awesome IP's ruined.
SilentNegotiator  +   152d ago
Hopefully not EA or any of the big 3.

I wish Valve could buy the 4A dev studio. Keep them around.
showtimefolks  +   152d ago
i hope a good publisher buys them out. like zenimax for example which is a private publisher for games like fallout and skyrim.

stay away from EA,Activision or UBI along with MS.
Mounce  +   152d ago
Like.....Zenimax?...

.....Ewww....what the hell are you smoking...
Beastforlifenoob  +   152d ago
Sounds funny but I really think that VALVE should buy them, they most likely won't but it's possible.
Knight_Crawler  +   152d ago
Activison probably already has a foot in the door ready to purchase them

Only a matter of time, but now that it's here the reality of it really hits hard.

Also, I didn't know Jason Rubin was THQ president. Hope things go well for him and everyone else.

I grew up playing wrestling games with THQ. Those games were really fun when I was a kid. They were terrible this generation though, and I hope we see these IPs put into better hands.

I hope other publishers are paying close attention or they may share the same fate
ApolloTheBoss  +   152d ago
Damned Shame.
WildStyles  +   152d ago
Damn. They've been around for a long time man.
e-p-ayeaH  +   152d ago
Activision or some other big publisher is going to buy them out probably.

Clearlake Capital already entered into an agreement to acquire THQ's assets.

It will be a hard sell. Someone has to come in and top their $60 million bid (plus $10 million for creditors).
e-p-ayeaH  +   152d ago
The company and its games needs to be in good hands to survive.
DiRtY  +   152d ago
Well if you are looking for some IPs to grab you have a good choice here.
pandehz  +   152d ago

Even though people saw this coming that doesn't make the news any less sad. I wish the best for the people that will be affected by this.
ApolloTheBoss  +   152d ago
Somebody PLEASE take Vigil before EA or Activision does. That studio has too much potential to be wasted.
e-p-ayeaH  +   152d ago
EA could handle it pretty well i think.
ALLWRONG  +   152d ago
Like they handled Bioware?
NYC_Gamer  +   152d ago
EA ruins studios
BlackWolf  +   152d ago
No. Anything but EA.
isarai  +   152d ago
If anyone were to buy Darksiders, i think Square Enix would do a good job with the series as a publisher
AngelicIceDiamond  +   152d ago
I hope they find help fast, it would be a shame to see them go after all these years.
Hydralysk  +   152d ago
Hope this doesn't affect Metro Last Light, and I'm also worried for Volition. Wasn't a fan of red faction, but Saints row 2-3 were what GTA4 should've been, and the Freespace series (R.I.P) are my favorite games of all time.
nes1987  +   152d ago
No they weren't. GTA 4 is head and shoulders above both of those games. The Saints Row games are childish and catered towards 15 year olds who find fart jokes to be hilarious. GTA 4 had an amazing story with some of the best characters in the series.
FriedGoat  +   152d ago
GTA 4 was overhyped and boring. San Andreas kicks it's ass hands down.

Saints row was over the top but overly more fun to PLAY in a sandbox environment.

I get realism when I walk outside, The story was ok, didn't like Nico, but anything other than that made me yawn.

They are both good!
Plagasx  +   152d ago
This BETTER not affect the release of Metro Last Light....
XANDEO  +   152d ago
excacly what I was thinking when I seen the title.....
kwyjibo  +   152d ago
I hope this allows them to clear their debts, because their 2013 lineup looks like it has winners.
Dlacy13g  +   152d ago
Lets hope this is a plan to get them going in the right direction and not a precursor to a full blown sell off of assets once everything is finalized on the back end. .
porkChop  +   152d ago
They filed for bankruptcy protection, and already have a deal in place to be bought out by Clearlake Capital. All their major releases are fine, and THQ will be fine as well. The company is positioning itself for the future. They've now got the funds to get out of their financial situation and make their games even better.
r21  +   152d ago
I hope THQ doesnt close down anytime soon, they've got alot of great games coming out soon. Also, Im still waiting for SR4 :C
porkChop  +   152d ago
Yeah they specifically mentioned that the sequels to Saint's Row, Homefront, Metro 2033, etc, are all perfectly fine and have not been affected at all. All their major releases are fine.
ShaunCameron  +   152d ago
Now I can see why gamers don't want the next-gen to come yet. Too many of their favorite companies are struggling to make it through this one.
DOMination-  +   152d ago
Thq aren't in this position because they struggled to adapt to the HD era. Its because they released a lot of average games with only one or two gems. And then they gambled everything on a casual market and learned the hard way how unpredictable that market can be.

I think its mainly been Japanese devs that have struggled this gen. Early reports suggest next gen might actually be cheaper so that's a good sign.
