Cheat Code Central's Josh Engen writes: "The last time I checked, we live in an age where people can surf the Internet while flying in a plane at 30,000 feet. We have scientists creating robotic arms that are directly controlled by the human brain, and I can send photos of my cat all around the world within seconds of my snapping the picture. We obviously have a pretty good handle on technological communication."
@8bitHero:
Dust 514 is PS3-only while PC/EVE Online players set missions and generally define the world. Though anyone missing the potential of putting it Xbox as well is the wrong kind of fanboy/gamer.
But really, the Shadowrun Xbox game reviewed and sold poorly, so why go out of your way to defend something largely forgotten and only remember because of cross-platforming?
True, Shadowrun did have cross plaform play as did Final Fantasy 11. But those were both BEFORE Microsoft took online gaming out of the silver account and put in in the gold account.
The reason the PS3 gets cross play games with the PC is because they don't have to pay. Look at Portal 2. Look at Skullgirls. Look at the upcoming Final Fantasy 14.
Microsoft might be the problem here because they don't want their users exposed to what other users are going to get to do without paying their cover charge. What other reasoning could there be? Because if playing online was still a part of the free silver account for live, this would probably be a non issue
The whole premise of Xbox Live is to make it as easy as possible and to create that instant gratification experience that console gamers like. They want to plug their games in and start playing right away. No hassle getting the game to work, no long installs, none of that stuff. That's why people like the service, it simply works well across all the software. You can't do that on the PC because as I say, Microsoft does not control the PC environment. Even Steam, which most love, does not work across all PC games.
