PlayStation 3 Surpasses 30 Million Sales in PAL Territories

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that the cumulative sales of the PlayStation 3 reached a milestone of 30 million units across Europe and the PAL territories as of 17th December 2012, demonstrating the continued popularity and momentum of the PlayStation 3 videogame platform.

I know more than 30 people with PS3 consoles and maybe 2 who own X360. That's reality in some parts of Europe. My guess would be 4 or 5 to 1, though. But it's only a guess by the number of games you see in shops, auction sales, etc. Microsoft has never been very keen on supporting EU with their consoles and services.

Yeah the UK are into their Xbox's but I've seen a lot of people change to PS3 in the past few years.
Xbox seems to be selling to the casual market much better than the PS3 though.
They mainly advertise the Xbox as a media device with a few exceptions being Dance Central, COD and Halo.

Harry actually in the UK, its pretty much 50/50 split at most 50/49 to XBOX.

@Harry I agree. Not too long ago it was quite rare to know a lot of people with PS3s in the UK and some uni friends use to take the mick. Things changed in 3 years. The PS3 has a slow start in the UK but it seems to be everywhere now

Jees, VGChartz has undertracked the PS3 in Europe by 2.5 million! That's one BIG discrepancy lol. I think we can safely say that the 360 and the PS3 are equal in sales now.

Turns out they can't even get their hardware numbers right within a couple of million. "We're a fan run site who won't reveal their sources or methodology, we don't stand by any of our data and we're wrong...all the time." I can't believe that site even continues to exist.
Years ago when they used to regularly update their data when NPD data or official numbers came out you could at least make the argument that they were useful for historical data, but who even knows what the hell their numbers represent now.

well... I just read the article (proper) and the heading is 'actually' Europe and pal regions, so ... perhaps I'm wrong LOL. Interestingly though, France isn't a pal region and they sold around 4 million PS3s. I reckon we ARE looking at more or less even numbers here for the 360 and the PS3, give or take a few regions. The problem is that Sony and VGChartz may have different views on what constitutes a pal or European region. Good news though.

I'd like to know, going by Sony's official numbers, just where that other 40 million come from. Japan and America of course, but that still leaves some rather large figures floating around. I know that Africa is big on the PS3 and sold a hell of a lot of PS3s.

I cant believe some people believe that both the ps3 and 360 have the same amount of exclusives next year due to the ps4 coming down the pipeline.
