Dragon Ball Z: Budokai HD Collection Review - IMGMR

The Dragon Ball franchise has been well-known for comprising of a series of fighting games for over twenty years, but none as recognized as the Budokai sub-series. This collection includes both Dragon Ball Z: Budokai and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, both of which were initially released on the PlayStation 2. Reasons why Budokai 2 is missing from the collection are currently unknown. Nevertheless, two iconic entries in the well-known fighting series are now available to Xbox 360 and PS3 owners. Since both of these titles are about eight to ten years old and this is merely an HD conversion, this review will focus on the conversion itself, as well as how well these games hold up today. So…how does it fair?

The story is too old to be commented.

Budokai 3 is awesome! I only wish it was made available as a standalone title, because I have no interest in Budokai 1. And its okay if Budokai 2 isn't in the collection. It's not needed.

"And its okay if Budokai 2 isn't in the collection. It's not needed."

I highly disagree. Budokai 2 was my favorite of the three.

How on earth is Budokai 2 your favorite? My god, I can kill myself playing through the story mode!

I fucking loved it .. (although my favorite was the first one..) it improved gameplay wise, the story mode was little annoying at first but I GOT USE to that small map.

they should've included all of them imo.
dbz games stopped being awesome after burst limit.

The only 'specific' reason I can remember liking that one better (I was young when I played it) is that Budokai 2 had the option of combining those capsule energy things to let you have infinite ki, which Budokai 3 didn't have.

I just remember having a better time with the second one more than the other 2. I don't remember if the 3rd lacked any characters/stages/moves from 2 either.

Budkai 1 is my favorite dbz game ever .. simply it has the best storytelling in all the dbz games ( the story was so memorable ) - voice work - EPIC soundtrack!! ( FUCK YOU NAMCO FOR CHANGING IT! .. SERIOUSLY!! .. NO I have to find an old jap version for ps2 now) - the gameplay does not have the depth of budkai 3 but I love it. it had it owns tactics and way..

a guy like me who never watched the dbz anime .. have played the game and EVEN after watching the anime ,budkai 1 come to my heart first. seriously some scenes in the game are were just much better than the anime!

I thought for sure burst limit was the next budkai for me.. even though it disappoint, I still wish for a squeal... wish the game stayed with atari.

Where's my Budokai Tenkaichi collection!? D:

Jon_Fu_1317d ago

I'm with you on that one, man! I'm a huge fan of the tenkaichi games. Especially 2 and 3!

DrRichtofen1316d ago

omg namco better include budokai tenkaichi 2 for sure or I'm gonna be mad lol Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and 3 are my most fav dbz games :)

DevilRebellion1316d ago

Give it a year, I'm sure that'll be made too. ;)

djslimzz1317d ago

... I agree with the score. I thought Te!kaichi was a lot better. Don't get me wrong though...the collection is ok"

This score is right on the money. I only purchased HD collection for Budokai 3. The first one didn't hold up too well. Also, it's a shame it didn't have Tenkaichi 3.
