The original Dead Space nearly featured a co-operative multiplayer mode, it has revealed.
Visceral Games experimented with a co-op mode towards the end of its development cycle, but decided that it "didn't make sense with the story", executive producer Steve Papoutsis told Digital Spy.
When asked why the team didn't introduce co-op sooner, Papoutsis said: "I like that question! Why not? Actually, funny story - Dead Space 1, we turned on co-op at the end, we were running around at the very end of development just to see if we could do it.
"We could do it, but it was way too in development, it didn't make sense with the story, we weren't ready to do it but it was something that we thought about."
