Gamesradar's Game of the Year 2012

Gamesradar- What makes a Game of the Year? Measuring up review scores is one often-cited way of going about it, but that doesn't quite do it. Review scores are, after all, first and foremost purchasing advice, seeking to answer the question "Is this game worth your time and money?" So what question does Game of the Year seek to answer? We'd put forth: "Is the industry most benefited by the release of this game?"

This year's contenders hail from nearly every established genre, and some are so innovative to have created genres all their own. Each and everyone has made significant contributions to the future of the industry, be it the emergent narrative found in Far Cry 3, the exhaustive multiplayer suite of Halo 4, the profound narrative in The Walking Dead, or the emotional resonance of Journey. But which rose above the rest?

I miss the old games radar crew. In my opinion this site has really gone down hill since mike Chris and Brett left. Too bad it use to be my go to site.

My Games of The Year!

1. DayZ = Still just a mod with the standalone coming in 2013 DayZ brought a New Genre to gaming and allowed the Gamers to determine their own fate in the wonderful but dangerous world of Chernarus!

....and now Bloodsuckers from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series have been added to the game totally revamping how you approach the wooded areas....DayZ it just keeps on giving!

2. Guild Wars 2 = Big Bold Beautiful and so solid in gameplay and content that you'll be playing for 100's of hours.

3. Planetside 2 = Friggin awesome game of perpetual 24/7/365 combat with 2000 gamers and Planetside 2 for "Me" made Battlefield 3 worthless which is an accomplishment in itself.

Honorable Mention: Chivalry Medeival Warfare, Natural Selection 2, DotA 2, TERA Online!

The walking dean game is above average, that's for sure, but I would have to go with Borderlands 2. I played it forever. Great graphics and style, great gameplay, good story.

walking dead was ok but not even close to
Halo 4

not even CLOSE!

lazyboyblue1407d ago

No. Walking dead was better than all of those. Sorry.

Didn't play Halo 4 but definitely better than both ME3 and AC3.

I would echo Dishonored, my personal GOTY.

Most good games I'll play through multiple times, but it's rare when I'll play through a game more than 2 or 3 times.

I'm on Dishonored play through #6 at the moment and have played each level a different way or a different path each time. Haven't done this since the original Bioshock.

Granted, lots of worthy candidates to choose from.
Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3 weren't far behind...
