Skyrim: A Second Look, or Why Haven’t You Played this Game?

Gi - Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve most likely been unable to escape the epic presence of Bethesda‘s title, Skyrim. For gamers who haven’t had a chance to play the game I’d like to take this opportunity to describe what it is that makes Skyrim such a fantastic experience. (PC, PS3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Xbox 360)

Why haven't I?
1) Not generally into first person perspective games.
2) Not into grunge design.
3) Not into the loose narrative presented.

3rd person is as easy as a click of the joystick....been that way with Bethesda games this entire generation.
Psychonaughty  +   156d ago
When their games get a 3rd person perspective that's as good as Dark Souls let me know.
Sp1d3ynut  +   156d ago
When the DS franchise gets a 1st person perspective AT ALL, as well as a save-exactly-when/where-you-wa nt save system, a mercantile and inventory system that's worth a damn, and TRUE free-form open world gameplay, let ME know.

First try playing it. THEN you can misjudge this great game.
Godmars290  +   157d ago
I'm not misjudging, not actually saying I don't like it, I'm just saying why it doesn't interest me.

And hearing that putting a bucket on an NPC's head allows you to anything tells me that the narrative is loose or breakable.

I think Skyrim is an amazing game.
However, I think this game was heavily plagued with negative news.
Everywhere you turn, all you hear is;
Oh, the game is too huge/not huge enough
Oh, the game is poorly designed
Oh, the glitches literally paralysed my real-life legs (felt like an arrow to the knee...)

Yeah..but this was AFTER it received millions of sales, a 96 on metacritic and then won game of the year.

Personally I think it's a garbage game.

great game on the xbox 360 not so much on ps3)

If you said that around when it came out it would be true, but not now. After all the patches, I can say it runs very well on ps3. There have been few glitches, minimal drops in fps, and no freezes for me.

I understand why some people don't like it but I've enjoyed this game a lot.

From my recollection bugs and glitches riddled both versions.

I haven't played Skyrim in over 6 months because I platinumed it and have no DLC to play.
Tonester925  +   157d ago
I played Skyrim for about 8-10 hours since release. It just didn't have that charm to it. I might pick it up again though
Edito  +   157d ago
I give up because it's too huge and very often a used to forget about the narrative and for me it's the most important thing in a game só because of the scale the narrative was way to fragmentated for me.

Dark Souls released a month before it, and I haven't stopped playing that

That a boy.

I stopped playing Sky rim when I found out all the loot kinda sucked, was usually just enchanted regular weapons. If you make a game riddled with dungeons you should make it worthwhile to actually loot them. I played the game enough to get my moneys worth, but after I finished the daedra and faction quests, it loses its flavor.

150+ hours in it so far on PC. Fantastic immersion.
swice  +   157d ago
Approaching the 200 hour mark. Stopped for about 6 months because of school.
Despite the bugs, this game is epic in scale and a must-have for any RPG fan. Not recommended for whiny babies that complain about everything

A lot of the things he says are good are wrong or I hate. The shouts detract from the purpose of the already iffy magic, that the world revolves around you is hugely immersion breaking, as if the peoples entire lives are dictated by your story progress, the areas are almost always populated by a bunch of things under your level and 1 thing 6 levels above you.

I like it, but morrowind is better.

One thing that amazes me about this game is that it runs perfectly smooth on my 3 year-old netbook.

I loved Skyrim but got bored with it after about 90 hours. It's a shame too, I still hadn't even started the Dark Brother but every time I popped it in, it felt tedious.

In it's defence, any game that gives me 90 hrs of enjoyment is amazing.

I'm not really into RPG's. Western or Japanese.

still play it every week, there is always something new to see or do and many ways to play, and mods are not making the game smaller either
Psychonaughty  +   156d ago
I tried to enjoy it for 30 hours but even though I adored Oblivion and played it for 200 hours I just couldn't get into it, after playing and loving Dark Souls it felt very generic and boring and way too much like Oblivion except with a horribly samey and dull looking setting (I much preferred Oblivions).

Most importantly the combat was even worse than Oblivions (which was terrible) and well you get the point. Skyrim is for me one of the most overrated games ever, whilst although Dark Souls has a cult following, it is one of the most underrated games ever.

Ultimately it felt stale and had a general been there done that vibe.
