BioShock Infinite's Elizabeth: Ken Levine on creating the best AI companion since HL 2's Alyx Vance

Eurogamer writes:

"Creating Elizabeth, BioShock Infinite's AI companion character, was one of the toughest challenges Irrational faced during the game's development.

The complex, eye-catching companion who partners Booker DeWitt during the course of the game was left out of early builds because Irrational's designers didn't know how to manage her, Ken Levine told Eurogamer." (BioShock: Infinite, Ken Levine, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I think Elizabeth is going to add something incredible to the gameplay, and we won't even be prepared for it.

i can't believe i am about to admit this but i never played HL1 or 2. but tomorrow i will go buy the orange box and enjoy what many call the best games of all times

You will be disappointed. Not saying the game isn't good but when it came out all those years ago it was different and unique.

But having played so many FPS's and other games since then you won't find anything to special about it. But if you still want to see what all the hub bub is about then by all means get it.

Its a very well refined singleplayer shooter experience but hardly cinematic without any amazing setpieces like you see in games today but back then it was pretty dam awesome and still is above many nowdays shooters in terms of experience.

Bioshock 1 pretty much set the standard for shooters this gen for cinematic adventure action shooter game the length might be thin compared to the Half-Life games but equality enjoyable as an experience.

I can see how hard it can be to pull off a Half-Life 3 considering how long the HL games are known for but also the cinematic standards that it needs to have to make a good impression on people again.

yeh i will not go into it expecting it to do the things that today's shooters do. also i agree Valve have set such a High Standard with HL franchise with its fans that it maybe impossible to meet those expections.

but if anyone can do its it Valve

By today's standard HL1 is going to be really boring/bad, but at the time it was revolutionary. HL2 is excellent and I think it's aged well.

Be sure to play those HL2 episodes as well, those are just as good.

Playing HL2 with Alyx was a lot of fun, which is the opposite of what an AI partner is usually like. If they managed to get Elizabeth to that level, I'm looking forward to Bioshock Infinite even more now.

Ken Levine can say whatever he want about the AI partner you are going to have, but it is up to the players to decide if Elizabeth is anywhere near the level of Alyx.

With that said, I look forward to seeing what they do, but the fact that they don't include Elizabeth on the main box art cover already diminishes her role.
e-p-ayeaH  +   571d ago
well i don't think box art really proves much.
