Who Cares About the Grammys?

thatgamecompany's Journey has been nominated for the title of Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media at the 55th Annual Grammys . Lots of people seem to be pretty excited about this, probably figuring that the recognition from such a noteworthy awards ceremony will help to garner more exposure for videogames. CGM loved Journey and thought that Austin Wintory's score played a big role in creating some of the most memorable moments of the game, but, all the same, CGM can't help but think that seeking recognition from an established awards vendor like the Grammys isn't the best thing for the videogame medium. (Culture, Industry, Journey, PS3)

The article said it's not the best for the video game industry, however I don't think it will hurt it.

i think its great that all forms of entertainment and arts are recognised for what they are. a good soundtrack is a good soundtrack and deserves recognition no matter what form it is displayed in even if it was a cartoon. i don't think this will have any affect on the gaming industry, if anything it would encourage developers to create good games which journey was

I don't think a step in the mainstream spotlight is gonna help the industry either, but I'm most certain it won't hurt it. Worst case scenario they will just laugh it off and forget about it if they win.

I don't like the Grammy's at all, but I hope Journey wins something.

well games are on the entertainment business just like movies and music. this is a great recognition step for gaming.

there is so much more i want to say but im tired and tipsy.

It's the recognition that counts, not so much the award

i really think that journey winning would make people think that there is more to games then just guns and blood

as any typical parent sees what there parent playing now a days

Well what happened when Skrillex won a grammy? The bass droped, a lot?

How does the Grammys decide who wins that category? Is it the soundtrack itself or how well the soundtrack complements the medium? The Journey soundtrack by itself is one of the few soundtracks I can listen to as a whole and not feel the need to skip through. However the way it is integrated with the game is nothing short of breathtaking.

My favorite gaming memory this year was when my sand person flew up into the "sand surfing" level and the music kicked in. It was exciting, it was beautiful and its something I will never forget. That being said I don't care weather or not videogames go "mainstream" as long as there are games like Journey that push the boundaries. But this nomination is a big deal, it IS a great soundtrack and this game deserves to have more people to give it a try.

I'm pretty sure if it were Halo or Skyrim or any other game with a lot of rabid die-hard followers, they'll shout it out and make a damn big deal of "their" game being nominated.

Great to see Journey get a nomination because the people behind it truly deserved the recognition.
Journey simply is beyond gaming.

Tittle says: "Who Cares About the Grammys?"

I say: Those who weren't nominated!
