ZombiU Producer "Disappointed" By Early Reviews

Nintendo Life writes:

"ZombiU was a high-profile system exclusive on Wii U's launch day, grabbing a lot of headlines and even having its own hardware bundle in Europe. It's also a survival horror title that we rated rather highly here at Nintendo Life, yet it attracted a broad range of diverse critical opinions in various reviews around the web." (Guillaume Brunier, Wii U, ZombiU)

I think the main reason for the poor reviews is reviewers simply not understanding the game. I saw a lot of the same complaints with it and they said it was too difficult and repetitive with too much "looting" which is pretty much the definition of a survival horror besides the "repetitive nature" but if you look on miiverse, all of the gamers playing zombiU seem to love it.

Yeah, reviewers were like "It's not like Call of Duty", so they marked it as mediocre. It's a great launch game for the Wii U.
eferreira  +   161d ago
No they weren't. Some people like the game, others don't. End of story.

I think the main reason for the poor reviews has nothing to do with that. I think the main reason for poor reviews is that we have become accustomed to a certain level of finish and polish in games, and this game has none of that.

To each his own, but from my observation of several reviews that's the easy conclusion to come to. In my opinion, the game isn't perfect and certainly has some shortcomings but its a niche game. A game like zombiU is pretty much strictly for survival horror fans. The issue I have with most of the reviewers and your comment is that you guys tend to try to speak for all gamers when in reality, its only your opinion for what its worth. Your entitled to feel how you want and express that but just because YOU feel a certain way does not mean all (or even the majority) of gamers will agree with you.

That's one of the biggest annoyances I have with elitist gamers and journalists. Gaming is gaming I don't feel as tho it needs to be over analyzed either the game is entertaining to you or it isn't. Of course, that's just my opinion on it tho and I respect yours.

I agree. A lot of more negative reviews really found a problem with the lack of polish or the fact the same animations are used over and over again (which isn't something you expect from games nowadays). There was also an issue with repetitive action (ie. the cricket bat)

you do know this is a launch game right mr troll.

All of the gamers playing zombiU would love it.

I'm sure all of the players on COD love it, but many do not.

What an awful name though. miiverse.

I stopped paying attention to review scores a long time ago, i buy games that look good to me... and really if you only buy games based on review scores you are going to miss out on a lot of good gaming experiences ... and i have gotten plenty of games that were reviewed really well and hated them. Each person has there own opinion, and if zombie u looks good to you then get it. the best reviews come from your experience with a game. For example i really enjoyed mass effect but the 2 sequeals did nothing for me.

I tried the game out and it just doesn't feel polished. A overhyped game if I ever saw one. More power to those that enjoyed it. I just wouldn't at full price.

The game certainly isn't for everybody. It's true survival horror (horror being the operative word) - it's not "fun", there's little that's enjoyable about the game, it's an anxiety-em-up and it does that brilliantly. But if you're looking for fast paced zombie mayhem where you can eviscerate the undead with a variety of weapons you're looking in the wrong place... It's a slow, terrifying slog and you're weak and vulnerable - making the game quite niche.

Those expecting a tough, uncompromising survival horror who actually know what "tough, uncompromising survival horror" actually means won't be disappointed.

Well I'm loving it,truly is scary. It reminds me of the better days when horror games were good, just like the 1st resident evils and silent hills...

Aggregate of a 76 score over 55 reviews.

7.5 from 272 user reviews.

That's pretty good. It is good based on the numbers. But then some people don't like it, and other people love it.

So really it's either a great game or a mediocre one, just depends on how you approach it and whether you like that style.

Worthy to note N4G's score is slightly higher than both at 7.7
http://n4g.com/channel/zomb...

But all in all the general consensus seems to be mid 7 out of 10

OMG the picture reminds me of the gamespot review.

Time to whack zombies with the cricket bat over and over again.

LOL

Anyways the game is decent but it wasn´t the amazing Wii U launch title that people thought it would be. No big deal theres plenty of other quality titles on the Wii U like Mass Effect and Batman Arkham City for example.

What is important when taking reviews into account is the site that is writing them. I don't know about anyone else, but I have a certain few that I can rely on for a review that is 'in tune' with the games I like or don't like. A site you actually trust for reviews.

And even then I take a gamble. No review on the net will give you a 100% review on a game for you. You will either enjoy a game or you won't. But trusted (based on experience) sites will give you an indication of whether you will enjoy something or not.

A metascore is not the be all and end all is what I'm saying really.

the only legit place to find reviews or impressions for this game is on the MIIVERSE where people have checked boxes to show they OWN THE GAME. Here on N4G, its no secret that its PS3 fanboy infested so people's opinions are not to be taken seriously.

I love Nintendo and I love zombie games, but I haven't cared at all to go for the Wii U with Zombie U.. That's saying something.

Make a better game then.

He's disappointed ? Good, so he knows how the gamers who were waiting for his game feel
deafdani  +   161d ago
Just curious: did you actually play Zombi U? Because it delivered on its promises far and large.

"I tried the game out and it just doesn't feel polished."

so you idiots buy games just to look at them right? lol it's better than most of the crap on xbox and ps3, and people buy games to play them not to drool over them.
iamnsuperman  +   161d ago
I feel I need to be the one to clarify something. Polished doesn't necessary mean look/graphics. When you describe something as unpolished it is a bit rough in some areas which can be anything from graphics to gameplay design. It means there is an idea there that could have been beneficial to the game as a whole if there was more time tweaking and tightening it up
