Microsoft forms new team to deliver "top-secret", "premium Kinect-powered experiences"

oxm.co.uk: "A new team is forming in Microsoft's entertainment division with a specific purpose: to push the envelope of today's and tomorrow's technology as we explore new ideas from the ground floor. " reads an ad for a software development engineer. "It begins with veterans from Xbox 360, Xbox LIVE, and Kinect. But we're growing as quickly as our imaginations can be translated into code. (Kinect, Microsoft, Xbox 360)

I'm sorry but if actually was Dexter, Professor Oak and Pinky and the Brain then that would be amazing.

Have to ask why they seem to struggling creatively with Kinect when there was so much talk among 3rd party developers and tons of mods from people who hacked it for PC.

This is why Kinect 2 might actually fulfill earlier promises. As of right now the technology behind the current Kinect isn't where it ought to be. Lag and the inability to decipher precise movements makes it current form somewhat limited.

While reading the headline, I imagined a group of people posing "Movie Cover style" in Metro garb all wearing dark sunglasses with several legs bent in awkward and painful looking positions.

Bring it. I have no problems with Kinect. Cool tech IMO.
Axonometri  +   716d ago
You are correct IMO also. Kids love Kinect... A better version could be really cool.
Dlacy13g  +   716d ago
Agreed its cool tech that I look forward to seeing it better realized with Kinect 2.0

edit: on the thought of better realized, I think a must for Kinect 2.0 is for it to work in smaller spaces. One major hurdle of current Kinect is this need to be at 6+ feet from the TV. I think for 2.0 they need to have that device working as close as 4ft, 3ft would be even better but I doubt that will happen.

I'm sure they have improved on everything. Kinect 2 will certainly impress with the added power of the new console and a improved camera with better tracking and resolution.

You know that whole distance thing is a myth much like kinect doesnt work in darkness. Fact is kinect is like eye and for certain things it wants to see your your entire body if they make games that only need to see certain things it can do that now well. I can sit an play Steel Battalion and Fable at 3-4 ft away and it work great.
The truth is the biggest issue kinect has is the power of the 360. The devs have to pick and choose how they want to use the power they are given. I have enjoyed kinect alot this gen and cant wait to see what they do next gen. I can just imagine the next more streamlined versions whether sequels or expanded attempts at games like Rise of Nightmares Star Wars and Steel Battalion. Those where just the first shots and if you got comfortable with kinect early those games are great in their own rights.

I don't see how Microsoft have so many IP's but refuse to let their studios work on them.
