Pachter: Wii U will get $50 price cut in 2013

In order to compete with next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo will slash the Wii U price by $50, according to analyst. (Nintendo, Wii U)

Godchild1020  +   643d ago
I think it will, depending on the cost of Next Gen consoles and how well the WiiU sells before the announcement of the Next Gen consoles. While a price drop is expected, I don't think Nintendo will do the same thing, as they did with the 3DS.

I'll buy it when it's at $150. Maybe bundled with 2 or 3 games. Hopefully by then there will be a good Zelda game on it. ;)
Y_5150  +   643d ago
You might be waiting for at least a couple of years for that to be considered. Also that price is ridiculously low. You know the only system of this current generation that's lower than that price is the Wii? If you find a deal like that, I would be utterly surprised...
Bowzabub  +   643d ago
Trust me, I'm in no hurry.
darkride66  +   642d ago
I've got a least a year, maybe two worth of games in my backlog of games I want to play. I'm not in a hurry for new consoles at all as I doubt they'll offer anything this current gen doesn't already offer until they've been on the market for a year or so. Besides, I learned my lesson buying all 3 consoles this gen at launch. Never again.
WooHooAlex  +   642d ago
I'm definitely in the same boat as you. I'll wait until 2014 or 2015 to buy one. By then I'll have a nice backlog of games to play.
Zhipp  +   642d ago
If you wait for a black friday deal 3-4 years from now you might actually get that.
Bowzabub  +   642d ago
Sounds like a plan.
animegamingnerd  +   643d ago
so this means it won't receive a price cut until at least 2014
Neonridr  +   643d ago
If Pachter says it, then just go by the exact opposite.
shackdaddy  +   642d ago
$50 increase?
dirthurts  +   642d ago
I'm pretty sure we all know that the console's price will be cut. I mean, it's having a hard time selling as it is, and it's still fresh on the market. When the big boys drop their hardware, no one is going to be thinking about the Wii U.
I would take Pachters word of Neonridr any day.
Neonridr  +   642d ago
lol, guys you are missing the whole joke. Everything Pachter says is always the complete opposite of reason.

Of course the system won't get a price increase, and will most likely get a price cut perhaps during the holiday season next year since there are rumours of a new system coming out.

You can take Pachters word all day, but this is the same guy who predicted that nobody would get the Wii U, then it would be successful, then it would fail, then the price was perfect, then the system would sell out until March, then Nintendo is completely irrelevant, then the Wii U will see a price cut next year.

I mean this guy flip-flops more than a fish out of water. He says everything and anything so that way no matter what the outcome - success, failure, mediocre, he can say "Well I predicted that".

The guy is a moron, and if you want to defend him and believe what he has to say, then be my guest.
ElectricKaibutsu  +   641d ago
@Neonridr, you can't blame a guy for changing his opinions based on new information. I respect that he admits he's wrong... which is pretty much constantly.

@Dirthurts, the Wii U is having a hard time selling? I believe it's selling like hotcakes. Are you basing this on Nintendo being able to keep up with the demand?
dirthurts  +   641d ago
Now let me start out by saying, I own a Wii U.
I'm not saying that they're able to keep up with demand.
What I'm saying, is normally people can't get enough of anything Nintendo is pushing out.
Not necessarily that it's bad hardware.
I really think it needed a new name, without the "Wii" in there, as most people don't even realize it's a new thing. That and it looks too similar.
But overall, I think everyone was expecting it to be completely sold out, especially this close to the holidays with a brand new system out there.
ElectricKaibutsu  +   639d ago
@dirthurts, definitely true. Every nongamer I've talked to still thinks it's a new controller for the Wii...
Qrphe  +   642d ago
It's a possibly. The PS2 also got a 15% price drop in Japan and Europe within its first year of release to fight off the incoming GC and Xbox.
Zodiac  +   642d ago
They wouldn't do it so soon after the 3DS price drop. It was no casual price drop either. Nintendo won't be dropping the Wii U price for a while.
disturbing_flame  +   642d ago
Can we report every pachter news ? I mean we have reported Hip Hop Gamer for his news but Pachter is always saying things and only 15% happens each time.

It's time to stop mentionning him on N4G
krazykombatant  +   642d ago
totally agree we got rid of HHG we need to get rid of patcher. Its such a joke.
1upgamer99  +   642d ago
This moron again? When 360 came out it was $399 basic, and PS3 was $499 basic, these consoles did not cut their prices right of the bat, and the Wii U has sold more than 3X the amount of PS3(compared to PS3 same time frame) last week in Japan alone. I love my PS3, but $499 for a basic is kinda steep, unless it cleans my house too. Also PS3 sold at a loss the first FEW YEARS, it was not until 3 years ago or so they started making money on each console sold.

the wii u will be in the bargain bin by christmas 2013
Riderz1337  +   642d ago
Nintendo is good at price cuts
supremacy  +   642d ago
Well this is pretty much expected anyways, but even so i feel the wiiu has no type of momentum. Yeah its a nice platform, but from here until the new consoles drop the games will continue to come out on current platforms. The last of us, mgs ground zeroes, bioshock, Gears of war judgment, darksouls 2, beyond 2souls,sly4,yakuza5,gta5,until dawn, puppeteer, watch dogs ect.

Plus one figures if the wiiu does get price cut, so will the current gen systems.

sashimi  +   642d ago
